New Music Releases Thread

Some recent favourites

Jeff Tweedy, it’s a long one but plenty of great songs in there.

Sofia kourtesis EP - Volver - I think I’ve loved everything she’s ever done, proper superstar.

Beirut - a study of losses - lovely stuff from a real class band

The Beths - straight line was no lie- first album of theirs I’ve really liked.

Winter - Adult romantix - dream pop indie shoegaze- sounds shite but it’s great

Geese - getting killed - weirdly brilliant

Disappointments

Springsteen - 7 album set with only one album on there of any note. Reviews are tremendous but it’s not very good.

Baxter dury - I either love or hate his stuff, again the reviews tell you it’s great, it’s not for me.

I think the Geese record is truly superb. I’ve only just really listened to the Cameron Winter record from last year but the buzz around Geese at the moment just seems mad.
It's justified I think. They're good and getting better by the record, and it's all a bit wonky/weird which is fun. Winter has an aura around him as a front man as well which I think is driving the Strokes comparisons. The new record is very good imo but I've already overplayed it.

Looking forward to the new one from the Antlers on Friday.

Antlers did Hospice, which i think is genuinely amazing as a piece of art, but is just about the saddest thing I have heard and I cant listen to it without become actually quite depressed.

The footage of them playing New York in the street is quite magic and the performance there really brings to life the better qualities of the record. Certainly impressive stuff and like you say, all they wonky and off the wall stuff I love

Aye it's probably my favourite record. Their last record, Green to Gold, was class so I'm quite looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Right then, there are new albums on Friday from Avery Tucker, Celeste, Flock of Dimes, Jay Som, Khalid, LANY, Madi Diaz, Mobb Deep, SOHN, The Antlers, The Besnard Lakes, The Wytches, Yellowcard, Brigitte Fontaine (a re-release), St Paul & the Broken Bones, Emily A Sprague, The Orb, The Necks, Charles Lloyd, Jerskin Fendrix, The Autumn Defense (a Wilco side project), Lorelle Meets The Obsolete and The Utopia Strong.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it as well.

Agree with you about Geese. I think they deliver on the hype. I probably preferred 3D Country to the new album, however.

Besnard Lakes, not a band I have listened to really for a long time.

They’re quite fun.

They're great live. Looking forward to their album!
Two albums from Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan out on Friday as well. One compiles 3 EPs and the other is a proper album. He plays in Newcastle on the 18th.

Cracking stuff. I'm a fan...

Haha… they just leapt out at me too as I’ve not heard them mentioned in a very long time. Must have been 10 maybe 15 years ago on a whim I travelled all the way down to Chorlton to see them play a tiny pub like gig after hearing mark radcliffe play them (fk would I do that now!).
