New Music Releases Thread

For any other PJ Harvey fans/nerds here there's an album called London Tide (World Premiere Recording) streaming from today. It's songs written by PJ Harvey and Ben Power for a National Theatre play. I'd like to hear the demos, but on listening to the album, I can imagine Polly singing many of the songs. She's on this short video talking about the project.

This is really, really, really good allowing for the fact that it sounds like Billy Bragg/Frank Turner and a group of stage school kids singing songs that PJ Harvey wrote. The songs are excellent.

Agree except I'm not familiar with Frank Turner. I'd be really keen to hear PJ Harvey perform them. When the All About Eve album (songs from the play - nothing to do with the band All About Eve!) was released there were two PJ Harvey demos on the CD. Fingers crossed.

Listened to the new Lin Manuel Miranda musical concept album. Based on the film The Warriors

8/10 - I really like the way he puts together songs and loved the variation in genres between the gangs. Plus the cameo list is ridiculous.

However I think it might be a bit of a marmite thing where some people might hate it due to that variation and the big departures from the film might not be appreciated (I hadn’t seen it but I had read the book)

Listened to The The last night and Mercury Rev this morning. I think The The will grow on me although agree nothing really stood out. Found Mercury Rev quite boring and initially I'm not keen on the spoken vocals, but not dismissing it already. Will listen again.
Eventually went back and gave Mercury Rev another go. I'm now enjoying all of it after a good late night listen on headphones. Focusing on the music over the vocals helped. Not sure how it'll come across in the setting of the boiler shop. I hope the sound person is good.

There's a new Julian Cope album already out. Just has Friar Tuck name on the cover. Supposed to be decent. This follows his Robin Hood release. Maid Marian next?
I'm not sure it got a mention here, but Nev Clay's first album in 23 years titled 'So Little Happened For So Long' was released a few months back. Richard Dawson and Kathryn Williams are among the guests on it. Cuddy's Cave is one of the highlights. Very funny and moving.

Tyler the Creator's releasing his new album on Monday because he hates Friday releases. Now I know his album's not particularly relevant in this thread but more importantly wasn't the world a better place when albums came out on Tuesdays and it felt like you had all week to listen to it building up to the weekend?

Bring it back.

You must be the only person in the world who has read the book and not seen the film when it comes to The Warriors 😳😂 (not a criticism btw)
There are new releeases tomorrow from Amyl & the Sniffers, Ben Folds, Bootsy Collins, Elias Ronnenfelt, Halsey, JC Chasez, Katie Gavin, Kelsea Ballerini, Laura Marling, Moin, Pixies, Pom Pom Squad, Soccer Mommy, Tears for Fears (live album), Tess Parks, Underworld, Fievel is Glauque, One True Pairing, Lone Justice and Craven Faults.
New video from Amyl is er…interesting (I watched the uncensored version for research purposes)

Ben Folds is a Christmas album, so I might wait 6 weeks or so before giving it a listen!

Not really true, there’s certainly some appreciation for hip-hop on here. His last few albums have been excellent.

I quite like albums being released on a Friday, have more time on a weekend for listening.

Haha yeah it does appear that way. They seem fairly different with the book being a lot more violent. Was very confused with some parts of the album that just don’t happen in the book

Will watch the film at some point. I only read the book as I thought that was what the album (thought the plan was a proper play mind) was going to be based on
