I'll review last week's releases at some point, once I've actually listened to them. In the meantime, tomorrow we have new albums from Bryce Dessner, Fontaines DC, Gillian Wlech & David Rawlings, Illuminati Hotties, Jeff Schroder, Lainey Wilson, Magdalena Bay, Mura Masa, Orlando Weeks, Sabrina Carpenter, Sofi Tukker, Spirit of the Beehive, Susanna, The Softies, Thomas Rhett, Uniform, Andrew Combs, Jon Anderson & the Band Geeks, Kishi Bashi, Thee Heart Tones and The Harlem Gospel Travelers.

Right, I've now given last Friday's new releases (plus some stuff I missed when it came out) the once over. My opinions:
Emiliana Torrini: I missed this in June. Very, very good, a bit Regina/Joanna, clever lyrics, nice vocals.
Orcas: decent enough indie/college rock from a duo who have been away for a good while.
Bill Callahan: a live album that crept out a week or three back. Many of the songs will be familiar. As live albums go, majestic.
New Starts: Darren Hayman's new band. Might be the best thing he's done since Hefner's early output. Quite riffy. Excellent!
Pom Poko: third album of female fronted post-punk from Norway. It's pretty good.
Ray LaMontagne: Captain Inconsistent is on a good one here. Soulful Americana, which is lovely throughout.
Chuck Johnson: really good. He's usually associated with ambient Americana but this nudges toward post-rock.
Hamish Hawk: I like this (and his last album as well). Literate, hooky songs about sometimes daek subjects.
Foster The People: I'd forgotten they existed. Surprisingly funky and rather good.
Wishy: 90s influenced indie rock, decent enough but not massively special.
Hi Fi Sean and David McAlmont: McAlmont's voice is great. The album is decent. A bit more dancey than I remember their first collaboration being.
Album of the week: if it had been a studio album, cearly BIll Callahan but I really was surprised by the New Starts album so that. Emiliana Torrini, Chuck Johnson, Ray LaMontagne, Hamish Hawk and Foster the People all go in the unreservedly good pile also.
