Slowdive - Everything is Alive
bdrmm - I Don’t Know
Yo La Tengo - This Stupid World
boygenius - The Record
bar italia - Tracey Denim
Blondshell - Blondshell
Protomartyr - Formal Growth in the Desert
Vulture Feather - Liminal Fields
Sparklehorse - Bird Machine
Wednesday - Ray Saw God
Winstone?

Quiet night tonight so had a go at mine -

1. Geese - 3D Country
2. Laurent Garnier - 33 Tours Et Puis S'en Vont
3. Saul Adamczewski - Adventures in Limbo
4. bdrmm - I don’t know
5. Fever Ray - Radical Romantics
6. Slowdive - everything is alive
7. Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy
8. Mitski - The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We
9. The Murder Capital - Gigi’s Recovery
10. Swans - The Beggar

Honourable mention to bar italia, haven’t had it off since it come out a couple weeks back but didn’t quite make the list as a late release. Hasn’t been the best of years like and was holding out hope for a Fat Whites release but you never know with them.

Very strong year for live music though. Gig of the year is between Young Fathers, Swans, and Max Cooper. All three of them absolutely blew me away.

You're not going to get my top XYZ of the year yet but you are getting the best new (to me) stuff I've listened to this week:

Hilary Woods: the former JJ72 bassist has carved out a decent solo career making ambient folk type stuff. Enjoyable.
The Umlauts: post-punky synthy stuff. Quite addictive.
Sun June: Americana inflected indie pop, female fronted. This is good.
The Third Mind: A bit of a folk rock supergroup. Covers, I think, mostly. For Neil Young fans.
Chris Stapleton: country rock/southern rock as usual from this lad. Pretty good.
Madhuvanti Pal: Indian classical nusic. Three long pieces. Really good.
Martin Simpson &Thomm Jutz: folk done well. Good.
Divine Horsemen: LA punk veterans. Co-lead male and female vocals. Excellent.
Candidate: sort of folk rock, their first in ages. This is very good.
Niecy Blues: sort of ambient R&B, very impressive.
Bixiga 70: Brazilian afrobeat essentially. Really good.
Maria BC: ambient indie rock. Really enjoyable.
The Bathers: out a few weeks ago. They've moved on a bit from their Astral Weeks style stuff to something akin to the Blue Nile. Magical.
Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter: tremendous weirdness from the artist known otherwise as Lingua Ignota. Weird gospel blues.
Togo All Stars: Afrobeat from, well, Togo. Good stuff from the land of Adebayor.
David Holmes & Raven Violet: Holmes produces, Violet sings. It's really good, quite indie rock.
John Francis Flynn: glorious. One for the Lankum fans. Ambient folkie stuff from Ireland with a couple of tracks that are a bit post-rock.
Cat Power: her recreation of Dylan's Judas gig so a live Dylan covers album. Enjoyable.
Miguel Atwood-Ferguson: he's done string arrangements for many artists and has now made a triple album that sounds a little like Sault but instrumental. Ambitious!
Sunwatchers: driving Afrobeat/indie/jazz/rock skronk, sort of what they usually do. Great.
Art Feynman: art pop but funky. I like this.
Beirut: the only thing lacking is the surprise element. This is up there with the best of Beirut.
Bas Jan: artsy post-punk-pop. Another really good album.
Johnny Flynn & Robert Macfarlane: the best thing, musically, that Johnny Flynn has done in many a year. Uplifting English folk, quite anthemic

Album of the week:
in the spirit of generoisty, bloody all of them.

Mom Jeans is the worst name for a band I’ve ever seen

The “Midwest emo” style of music (although Mom Jeans are from California) is well known for having shit band names.

Are the Plyphonic Spree a Polyphonic Spree tribute band?
