New Music Releases Thread

ok my music loving SMB friends, some advice needed. Am going to primavera porto again this year, lineup came out a couple of weeks ago, little disappointed if I'm being totally honest but definitely enough there to keep me interested, especially with a four day ticket only costing €120!

On my list to see already are
FKA Twigs
Georgia
Fred Again
Alvvays
Arlo Parks
built to Spill
Gaz Coombes
Gilla Band
Japanese Breakfast
MMJ
Self Esteem
St Vincent
Daphni
and of course PSP, Blur and will prob see what Kendrick Lamar is like as I'll be there.

So who am I missing out on from the lineup, any recommendations of others to go see that I've probably not heard of?

I’d be going to (among others):
Bad Religion
Yard Act
Murder Capital
Beths
Le Tigre
Alvvays

(Is Shellac the Steve Albini band?)
Allo Darlin have announced they're getting back together. That's just lovely.
I’m all over this. Big fan but never got to see them first time around. Hoping for a US trip.

RE: prima

Think everyone covered it well and your OG list was great but Murder Capital is a must see if you choose to go. The best live act I saw last year. Can’t say I’d even go back and listens to the album but they were just electric live.

I’d be wanting to see Kendrick more than anything.

It's the first proper week of new releases in 2023. We have albums from Belle & Sebastian, James Yorkston with Nina Persson & the Second Hand Orchestra, Liela Moss, Margo Price, Obituary, Ryuichi Sakamoto (on Tuesday for some reason), Molly, Nathan Salsburg, Velvet Negroni, Billy Nomates, Whitehorse, Gaz Coombes, Susana Santos Silva and Rozi Plain.
Looking forward to Billy Nomates as I enjoyed her first album.

My first weekly review of the year...

Belle and Sebastian: recorded at the same time as A Bit of Previous, I think this is the better album of the pair. Some cracking tunes. They're a national treasure!
Hal Cannon: this came out late last year. I was impressed enough by the track on the new Uncut CD to listen to the album. He's very good, a little Tom Waitesy in places
Molly: shoegaze/dreampop. Pretty impressive. Singer has a good voice.
James Yorkston, Nina Persson and the Second Hand Orchestra: exceptionally good. Mostly duets with some solo Yorkston. He's a national treasure!
Velvet Negroni: I guess this kind of gets filed under alt-hip hop. Lots of ideas. It flys by pretty rapidly.
Margo Price: another very strong album from Margo. She's moved a long way from her country beginnings. She's an international treasure!
Billy Nomates: really good again. Probably better than her debut. She's a national treasure!
Whitehorse: the most out and out country album of the week. Strong songs, male/female duets.
Gaz Coombes: his solo career goes from strength to strength. A little more wistful than Supergrass. He is, indeed, a national treasure!
Susana Santos Silva: sort of droney ambient stuff, bird song, street recordings etc. Interesting but not something I'd go back to a lot.
Rozi Plain: strong songs, a good album. The only complaint is that it's all a little one paced.

Album of the week: tough competition but my inherent bias gives it to Yorkston, Persson and the Second Hand Orchestra.

I really enjoyed Molly

The Iggy Pop album is surprisingly class.
I really like Iggy's voice on his late career albums. Half this new album is very good. Not sure about the rest yet.
Thought the lead single off the new Belle and Sebastian album was awful. Pleased there's much better stuff on the album. Hopefully Stuart's health can take an upturn and they can get back to touring.
Agree with @Arkle that Gaz Coombes' album is very good. A good start to the year.
