New Music Releases Thread

We're definitely hitting the year end with regard to new releases. Tomorrow, there are albums from Leland Whitty (of Badbadnotgood), Mount Westmore, SZA, Julia Bullock & Christian Reif and David Lance Callahan (of The Wolfhounds).

I suspect I'll mostly catch up with stuff I missed on release.

Dead Meadow (psych rock) released an album titled Force Form Free on Friday. Quite short at 35 minutes but decent.

It’s on Spotify, looking forward to it.

It's good, really good. Feels like more of a SAULT sound to me than it would do than the big booming sound of her last record. It's early to say but it's maybe her most personal and being all nerdy, a good chance it's her best as an MC. In the last few years there's only really Nas who I'd definitely put above her for out and out lyricism.

That's gutting like. What was the reason given? Is Think Tank still in that venue outside the Life centre?

That Insecure Men record is brilliant, would like to see a follow up next year though don't think it's likely with this solo project kicking off in earnest.
Sorry mate strangely never got a notification about your reply. Yeah it’s the small venue in Digital. No reason why, think he went ahead with all the other small shows he had planned so I’m guessing maybe ticket sales were poor. Shame as I’ve heard the solo stuff is meant to be beautiful.

Listening to the Little Simz album after some of the comments on here. Absolutely fantastic, the music is exceptional.

Haven’t listened to a lot this year really, just don’t have a lot of time but this is my top 12. Still discovering a lot I’ve missed or barely listened to.

Arctic Monkeys - The Car
Spoon - Lucifer on the Sofa
Hot Chip - Freakout / Release
The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention
Arcade Fire - We
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cool It Down
Wet Leg - Wet Leg
Phoenix - Alpha Zulu
Jack White - Entering Heaven Alive / Fear of the Dawn
Yard Act - The Overload
Interpol - The Other Side of Make Believe
Kevin Morby - This is a Photograph

Really enjoying the 5x 20 minute records put out by Blue Angel Sparkling Silver this year. Lo-fi bedroom pop overlaid on random voice notes. Link to one of them below but well worth listening to the other 4:

Seeing as we’ve covered top albums, how about some of our favourite songs of 2022?

Wet Leg’s ‘Angelica’ was apparently my most played of the year, for me it’s by far and away their best song. The rest are in no particular order:

Black Midi - Welcome to Hell
Oliver Sim - Sensitive Child
Katy J Pearson - Alligator
Arctic Monkeys - There’d Better Be A Mirrorball
Yard Act - The Overload
Cate Le Bon - Running Away
FJM - Everything But Her Love
Johnny Marr - Receiver
Belle & Sebastian - Unnecessary Drama
Richard Dawson - Museum
Jockstrap - Greatest Hits
Little Simz - Gorilla
