New Music Releases Thread

New stuff I've listened to over the weekend:

Jack White: a fun, quite guitar heavy album. I've still got a feeling that, to a degree he now follows where once he would be leading (see also Beck).
Pavement: the last album remastered with the tracks in a different order (preferred by some) and unreleased songs, demos and live tracks. A good reissue.
bdrmm: a new song (Port) plus six remixes of the song. It's pretty good, would prefer more new material though. Remixers are on point (WH Lung, Daniel Avery, Working Men's club amongst the).
Daniel Rossen: Grizzly Bear bloke going solo while they're basically on hiatus (Ed Droste left them to become a therapist). It's quite Grizzly Bear-esque really (a fair few of the band are involved).
Father John Misty: I like this a lot. Sounds very 70s singer-songwriter. Lyrics fun as always.
Calexico: more toward the Mex part of their Tex-Mex thing. Might be their best in a while.
Lucius: fun, danceable pop. A good album.
Wet Leg: they work well over an album, as well as singles. Really, really good!
Whatever the Weather: electronic artist Loraine James' ambient alterego. All tracks named after temperatures. Drifts along nicely.
Sirom: a mix of Balkan folk and jazz. Probably an acquired taste but I like it.
Orville Peck: another cracking album from country's masked man. Some crooners, some bangers, all excellent.
The Linda Lindas: fun punk pop from the band that features an 11 year old drummer (the rest of her bandmates aren't too much older). Lasts a brisk 25 minutes.

Album of the week: Wet Leg under strong pressure from FJM and Orville Peck.

Spiritualized: it's a Spiritualized album, it's bloody magnificent! That is all...
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets: psych-rock, heavily influenced by the rockier end of Gizzard's work. Enjoyable.
Fontaines DC: I'm going to go against the thread consensus so far and say that this is excellent, possibly their best so far. I like the fact that they're evolving and taking in other elements (touches of folk etc.). An exceptional band.
The Lazy Eyes: whilst Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are Gizzard influenced, I'd describe The Lazy Eyes as post-Gizzard. They're maybe a bit less rocky but they're young Australian and clearly influenced by contemporary Australian bands. In saying that, good album.
Large Plants: a solo project from Jack Sharp of Wolf People (who I think have split). It's psych rock but maybe a bit less Sabbath informed and more influenced by folkier bands.
Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder: two old fellas, who are pretty much masters of their craft having fun playing music together. Really enjoyable!
Joshua Hedley: old school country rock. Even has a track called 'Country & Western'. Good fun!
James Heather: neo-classical piano pieces. A bit Max Richter. Good on early listens.
Kathryn Joseph: stark, keyboardy, great vocals, very intimate sounding.
Tony Price: urban electronica, vaguely reminiscent of Jon Hopkins less ambient work. Good.
Old Crow Medicine Show: they continue to be masters of modern bluegrass. Probably broadened their palate a bit here. Excellent songs.
Wet Tuna: sort of psyxhedelic folk that's kind of mutated into something akin to Nixon era Lambchop. Early listening suggests something very good. They're on the improve!
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard: as mentioned by @Mickdundee this seems to sound like tracks from throughout their career, plus some rap-rock tracks, which I'm not sure is needed. Pretty good, overly long though.
Bob Vylan: shouty, angry, punky fun. Excellent!
S. Carey: Bon Iver side man makes album that sounds like early Bon Iver. Nice songs.
Africa Negra: the sound of Sao Tome and Principe. A mix of rumba, highlife and other sounds. Totally joyous!
Oran Ambarchi/Johan Berthling/Andreas Werlin: motorik jazz, basically. Exceptionally good.

Album of the week: well, that's Spiritualized but there are several others that are potentially yearly list worthy.

Spiritualized is indeed magnificent as expected. I’d say it’s marginally less magnificent than And Nothing Hurt but I’m being incredibly picky here.

I need to get on Tony Price then, being mentioned in same sentence as the great John Hopkins is good enough for me !

Aye, saw them there, think it was a Friday night, think saw them there as Shack, in fact defo did was talking to him outside the boozer across from cluny when it was a bit of a dive. Asked him to do 'comedy' early on as had metro to catch. :D

Wont be there this time as seeing them night after in Glasgow ( going to see Starless on the Saturday so thought kill 2 birds etc )
