New Music Releases Thread

What do you think of it? I’m not that bothered. Absolutely loved Astro Coast but this isn’t a patch on it.
Not had a chance yet - I'm a few hours behind you, but I'll give it a listen in a few. Worryingly, given your view, I got the RSD expanded Astro Coast a couple of weeks ago, so I've been playing that quite a bit. Sounds like maybe not the nest prep!

Might just be me. Sounds very Beach Boys which isn’t so much of a bad thing but I just didn’t think it went anywhere really. Shame.

I read a review yesterday that said there were a couple of highlights, but too many songs that had clear potential and fell short, or other songs that just sounded like SB doing SB songs (which they said, in essence, not a bad thing, but not new)

First half of the PE album is awesome, really takes me back to 88, 89 and the raw power of 'Public Enemy'

Some class cameos and tweaks on the original PE albums.

Second half sort of fell away a little for me, but going to be one of the few albums this year I'll listen to over and over

from ACR's new lp, this is the stand out for me

like "pacific state" meets some mad, drum ensemble at 7am, as the sun's coming up and you're absolutely refreshed and 100's of miles away from the cold of blighty

I'm slowly working through things and getting toward the big albums of the week but for me:

Anna von Hausswolff - didn't know she'd released a new album. It's instrumental organ pieces. Quite dramatic, like a garlic and pesto salami.
Will Butler - very good, if a touch Arcade Fire. Very much an Ipswich salami.
A. Swayze & the Ghosts - this came out last week. They're Australian and, more or less, punkish garage rock. It's an excellent album. A pork, venison and port salami, if you will.
Lydia Loveless - well made Americana, liked but not loved. A salami made from the hoof meat of an elderly caribou.
Surfer Blood - it's alright, a bit Weezerish. Supermarket own brand Danish salami!
King of the Slums - the band that were briefly tipped to be the new Smiths are back with their interesting lyrics and electric violin. It's like the last 29 years didn't happen, aside from the brief reformation in 2009 and the two albums they released in 2017 and 2018. Very good! Hardcore Salami Stars!
Thurston Moore - it's very long but doesn't outstay its welcome. Exceptionally good! It's a high quality salami with flecks of goat's cheese and balsamic onions.

Have you been eating Salami?

I’ll be honest, Will Buttler forced me to turn off after 3 songs. I didn’t mind his debut, and I love bits of Arcade Fire

didn’t love Anna VH either, and I absolutely adore the Miraculous

I want salami - to the beat of bowwowow I want candy

big release of this week delayed, roisin...next Friday

I admit to the occasional slice of salami, yes.

I've enjoyed the Will Butler album more than I thought. Suspect that Anna VH is a side project type thing (I'm hoping that doomy organ pieces aren't her thing from now on).

Really impressed by Thurston and A. Swayze and also enjoyed KotS a lot. Got a lot more to listen to, though.

I’ll give Will another listen on your recommendation then.

Really really enjoyed Sufjan. In the same way I enjoyed the last Flaming Lips record, it’s not as immediate as Illinois or Michigan or even Carrie and Lowell. Or even Adz. But it’s great

Sufjan is for tomorrow. Had a busy work day on Friday (busy work week TBH) so haven't really got round to listening to new stuff until today. Randomising my listening so I don't go in top heavy. The Thurston Moore album is excellent and A. Swayze lives up to its review in last week's Observer.

Try Mi’ens too.

Thurston is indeed excellent. He can be hit and miss, but this is hit

Sufjan stevens - good, though not sure how good yet, need to put a day off in to listen to it all in its entirety.

Diana Jones - very good, if a little bleak. No surprise given it’s mostly about the US Mexican refugees.

Will Butler - there’s a couple of decent tunes here, but overall it’s not great.
