New Music Releases Thread

As I’ve got plenty of time on my hands for stuff to listen to and it’s a 3rd of way through year, what’s your top albums of year in case I’ve missed anything ??

id go, Holy Fuck, Dan Deacon, Baxter Dury, Frazey Ford.
Big Moon and Lilly Hiatt are definitely my top 2.

Not sure about the 3rd. At the moment probably AJJ or THICK, but Rookie, Pokey LaFarge and Fiona Apple could potentially sneak in there after more listens.

Somehow missed the release of the Pet Shimmers record at the start of this year. Been looking forward to that after seeing them at the Shacklewell Arms where they were excellent. About to give it a spin.

Morbo is ace! He's the partner of Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) seemingly.

Last year was a poor year despite what 6 Music will tell us. This year is shaping up to be a good one - best for me so far - Cornershop, Waxahatchee, Caribou, Baxter Dury. Looking forward to Jason Isbell, the Killers, the XX, Haim.

I used to like him. Until he started to wear that shit suit with the musical notes on it

That's how I started listening to his stuff.
Was watching the tiny desk gig him and Waxahatchee Katie done. Thought he was a class above her

This is cracking, really enjoying it. If I had to compare to recent releases it's like a fuzzy, scuzzy lo-fi Sorry. Well worth a listen.

Hooo @Arkle what’s out tomorrow then?

Let me have a lie in...

Albums from AWOLNATION, Braids (but Amazon reckons June 19th), Brendan Benson, Corb Lund, Indigo Girls. Jaga Jazzist, LA Priest, Lucinda Williams, Other Lives, Pam Tillis, Robby Krieger, Rose McGowan, Rufus Wainwright, Trivium, Willie Nelson, BC Camplight, James Alexander Bright, RVG, Hazel English, Fra Fra, Harkin, Peter Oren, Jack Sharp (Wolf People's front man solo) and JG Thirlwell & Simon Steensland.

Lucinda Williams, Rose McGown and Rufus Wainwright for me. Nivver hord of the rest of them.

You’ve never heard of Willie Nelson?

Unless a punk label that doesn’t use Metacritic has something out this week (or someone recommends something to me) it looks like Brendan Benson and Willie Nelson for me.

Not great really

BC Camplight and Rufus I guess

I think it's half decent. I like RVG a lot and the last Peter Oren album was exceptionally good. There's a few others I'll give a listen to based on reviews. All depends on whether things actually get released. A lot of albums are getting pushed back - Asian Dub Foundation's new album is reviewed in the new Uncut but seems to be down for a mid-September release. Rufus, Braids and LA Priest from this week's metacritic list all look to have been moved. The new Psychedelic Furs album, which should have been out next week, looks like it's now out on July 31st.
