Looks like the Freddie Gibbs and Madlib album will be high up on those end of year lists!

The Alarm have released their new album 'Sigma' today. I heard a track they released in advance and was unimpressed which was disappointing as 'Equals' last year was Peters best stuff for many a year.Right, this week's new releases. Albums from Thom Yorke (obv.), Chase Atlantic, Chris Brown, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib, Ingrid Michaelson, Makeunder, Outer Spaces, Raheem DeVaughn, Spirits Having Fun, The Allman Betts Band, The Appleseed Cast, The Black Keys, Dona Onete, Night Moves, Molly, Mega Bog, Jade Jackson, Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18, Daughter Of Swords, 75 Dollar Bill andThe Tallest Man On Earth.
Thanks. My favourite band in my mid-teens - saw him a couple of years ago in NYC doing a 1986-era set - great nostalgic stuff. The Alarm have released their new album 'Sigma' today. Me anarl. I've just listened to 8 of the tracks and remain unimpressed. Equals is bloody good though if you haven't heard it. Peters is doing a solo tour of small UK venues playing a typical setlist from 30 years ago this Autumn which is a bit intriguing as the Change/Electric Folklore era wasn't sparkling either! Thanks. Oh, and Esperanza Spalding’s 12 Little Spells is now available on vinyl.A couple of jazz releases
Lebroba - Andrew Cyrille
The Gleaners - Larry Grenadier - just him and his bass
If you were in the NE and saw them during those first 2 or 3 albums, chances are we were at some of the same shows. Change was when I changed and kicked them into touch!Me anarl. Not taking anything away from his or Radiohead's influence on the music industry, but I've never been much of a fan of either.I like Thom Yorke, but it’s his weakest solo record for me
I was in the NE until 1985. I can only remember the Newcastle City Hall gig with The Faith Brothers as the support act but I suspect that was the only early NE gig I attended. It was then off to Brum Poly and Birmingham Odeon and Powerhouse for me. Yeah, but your taste is mixed at best palNot taking anything away from his or Radiohead's influence on the music industry, but I've never been much of a fan of either.

Have you listened to Black Midi yet?
True, I'm all over the place when it comes to my music tastes. I went from being a music snob to being a music glutton.

The current incarnation of The Alarm are touring the US this Summer with Gene loves Jezebel and another band who I can't recall.
Yes, and talk about all over the place! But yeah, I like it. I have to admit that first I thought he was speaking in different language until I looked up the lyricsHave you listened to Black Midi yet?
I think that first Mayfair gig was 1983 and I couldn't get there. It was around the time of the release of 68 Guns and Chelsea were one of two support bands. IIRC, my Brum Powerhouse gig was the Absolute Tour but that tour may also have been in Newcastle as well. It was a fair old while back, the support band at Brum Powerhouse may have been Wire Train and the did a cover of 'Walk on the Wild Side'.Ha, you're creeping me out - my only other shows were Brum area, too (twice at the Powerhouse [EotH tour] and at least once, possibly twice in Leicester - I'd moved away to Cov Poly in 86!
City Hall, I saw that Faith Brothers show. I also saw them there supporting SLF on the farewell tour (first time I saw them) and supported by The Escape Club at some point. Before they moved up to City Hall level I saw them at The Mayfair (maybe touring the Where Were You Hiding single).
It's Modern English - saw the announcement at the time but NJ/NY were both nights I couldn't do. If memory serves, it's just one of the versions of GLJ - it was 2 brothers and they each reformed their own versionThe current incarnation of The Alarm are touring the US this Summer with Gene loves Jezebel and another band who I can't recall.
Everybody seems to be wanking themselves silly about them lately.Have you listened to Black Midi yet?
I think Absolute was probably Escape Club in Newcastle. I saw Wire Train supporting them at the Powerhouse, pretty sure, as I bought an album of theirs on knockdown a few weeks later, which I still have and have never played!I think that first Mayfair gig was 1983 and I couldn't get there.
