New Music Releases Thread

Had a few listens to 'Peace - In Love' over the last few days... can't say I'm all that impressed. It's got some ok songs on it but all pretty generic and largely ripped off from other bands. I don't mind bands borrowing the odd riff or being influenced, but nothing on this album sounds even remotely new or inspiring.

Had a quick listen to the new 'Tribes' album last night and it seems pretty much like the 1st but without any decent songs on it... might need a few more listens but wasn't keen.

Adam Green & Binki
The Strokes
Daft Punk
And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
Bosnian Rainbows
Highasakite
Nadine Shah
Soft Pack
Seapony
Surfer Blood

Aye there one of my favourites anarl. Wouldn't mind Johnny Marr making a return with them like, did some good stuff with them. Doubt he will anytime soon though with his own album just recently coming out.
Marr can stay well away! The Cribs are a trio of shit brilliance, as already said Marr polished their sound up too much and made them a bit dull, I still enjoyed ITI but it's their weakest album IMO. The Marr thing seems to split fans, I'd rather they just stick to a three.

Shangri La: capacity is about 500/600 I think.

I was bored of Peace after about 3 plays of the album but I knew I would be. Thankfully I bought the signed vinyl which is selling for £35+ on eBay. 8-)

Today i am mostly listening to 'Heavy Flowers' by Blaudzun.

And it is most excellent.

SOunds like something I should investigate.

Newish stuff I'm liking...

"O' Be Joyful" by Shovels'n'Rope. Kind of countyish, more duettish White Stripes vibe to them.

"Re-Mit" by The Fall. Goes without saying really...

"Emily" by Emily. Not very new at all. Re-release of a 1972 baroque psychedelic folk album recorded in France by a 16 year old American girl called Emily Bindiger.

"Silver Wilkinson" by Bibio. Ambient guitar stuff, overtones of Boards of Canada. I think Bibio has made about 7 albums, I've only got a couple but both good.

"Love in Arms" by Gabriel Bruce. He reminds me of The National.

I downloaded 'Trouble will find me' by the National tonight after keeping an eye on this thread. What an exhilarating listen, track three 'Don't swallow the cap' is a unbelievable song.

I think I've got a few more National albums on my iTunes but I've never really given them a good listen, I will definitely be revisiting them as these seem to be a band that's passed me by for a few years.

I'm really looking forward to the new Camera Obscura album which is due out in a few weeks, going to see them up Newcastle in June as well. They are still the best thing to ever come south from Scotland.

Just hoping I can get a ticket in time before it sells out, seen them saying it was close to selling out already.

Alligator - Boxer - High Violet.

Dunno if seb but Radio 2.just played a new one from Fleetwood Mac 'Sad Angel', not really a fan but I liked it  new EP out apparently.

Massive fan of the new National record. It's beating High Violet but don't think it could touch Alligator or Boxer

It's better than Boxer IMHO.

For me, The National are all about the way they segue from the destructive to the beautiful and they do it perfectly on Trouble Will Find Me and Alligator, whereas Boxer and High Violet are a bit more disjointed.

Not that Boxer and High Violet aren't class as well mind.

Cherry Tree is still my favourite National record though, but only because 'Wasp Nest' and 'About Today' are two of my favourite songs ever.

Been listening to the new Laura Marling record today, one of those that I couldn't wait to get to the end of - and it's a long 'un - so I could play it again. Confidently tipping this for my end of year Top 3! Fascinating songs and I really like her guitar playing, don't know how good she is but I love the sounds she makes. 4th album, each better than the last, and still only 23. Lovely.

Bought the vinyl today, half way in & sounding very good...

I've had the Majical Cloudz album on this week, it's top notch, ignore the stupid name! His voice is outstanding.

I agree with that for High Violet - but Boxer just gives me fond memories of when I first got into them - I grew to really appreciate them as a band then. The new one is great though - there aren't any songs that really stand out but I quite like that - it really merges well. Fireproof and I Need My Girl are particular highlights

Gracekess and slipped are my two early favorites, but that will all change upon next listen, of that I've no doubt!

Have you got cherrytree?

Yeah, Wasp's nest is spectacular. Absolutely beautiful. About Today isn't one of my favourites but is a good song. I think This Is The Last Time is superb too.

I have some very good quality bootlegs of two gigs from the early days if anyone was interested I could upload them?
