New Music Releases Thread

Not sure it's been mentioned here but The Child of Lov's album is excellent! Gets lots of comparisons to Prince in the press and reminds me of 90s grunge band turned funksters Pigeonhed's debut album.

Listening to a compilation called "Son Of Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys" currently. 36 tracks of, er, pirate themed songs done by some big names.

Also, got to recommend Denison Witmer's self titled album (think it's about his seventh), picked up on the basis of a good review in Uncut. Reminds me of a countrier Paul Simon.

Is the new Vampire Weekend any good? I didn't really like the last one but I love the new(ish) single, Dianne Young.

Not sure about the new song tbh, the album got a fairly average review off Andy Gill in The Independent too. The last one grew on me massively, didn't like it for ages but persevered (well, had it on in background when doing uni work etc) and I think it's great now.

It came out last year, but I've just discovered Sixto Rodriguez - Waiting for Sugar Man. It's absolutely class

other albums from this year:

First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar

Very much this, it's amazing. Can't believe i only heard about him last year.

The documentary is good if you haven't seen it - Searching for Sugar Man

The chances of The Cribs playing a pop up shop in Sunderland must be 0%.

It is a good idea though and I will definitely get along to have a look.

Aye. If you can't entice them to play Split with thousands of pounds of the table, they're not doing this for what will probably be expenses.

Sounds like its a day time event from that article, which counts me out.

MS MR, secondhand rapture

S'alright. The singles and stuff from the EP are strong. I could do without a lot of the 2nd half filler.

Just finished reviewing Majical Cloudz Impersonator and the new CSS album. Both worth checking out for very, very differing reasons

Sounds very promising! Pleased to note that I've got that week off work.

Frankie seems to have given up on the quiff!!

Tomorrow is the day. The National

Oh and I like Tristeza, not what I expected

Wild Nothing newbie hasn't grabbed me thus far
I don't like the added synths on the Wild Nothing EP. It's a bit boring.

This National album won't be on Spotify for a week or two will it? Wish I'd just bought the record now, might have a dodge to RPM this week.

I had a couple of listens to Trouble Will Find Me last week was going to try and stay away from it until I got a physical copy tomorrow, but I've got it on now... Wonderful record. I'll probably listen again before bed.

I've recently been listening to:

Mikal Cronin : MCII
The Veils : Time Stays, We Go
Public Service Broadcasting: Inform Educate Entertain
Phoenix - Bankrupt
The Thermals - Desperate Ground
Daughter - If You Leave (album of the year so far)

Too right. :lol:8-)

Btw Amazing Radio have a new app, it's very good compared to the last one. They're also back on DAB!...in London, the rest of the country is still being worked on.

Excellent source for new music.

Seeing them again this summer like, can't wait
