New Music Releases Thread

I'm struggling with Soccer Mommy, finding it a real drag. Hoping it's a grower so I will give it another few goes. Shame because I've really enjoyed everything before this too.

I don't seem to have noticed this band mentioned here before, but has anyone come across 'Elephant Stone' before? Canadian outfit that wiki describes as "incorporates aspects of traditional Indian music including the sitar, tabla, and dilruba with Western psychedelic rock".

Was wandering round the trafford centre and had shazamed one of their tracks, heard it again on mark radcliffe's show at the weekend.

I rather like it...

Don't think there's any link to the roses either...

ive heard of them but just dismissed them as some jangly guitar tribute band. Certainly didn’t expect a trad Indian / Pysch hybrid !

they need to ditch the name !

listened to quite a lot since Friday.

Caribou. I really like the more downtempo tracks but I cannot get away with his more commercial club tracks such as Ravi and Never Come back. The other 10 are really strong.

Sink ya Teeth. Really good second album following on from their superb debut. Their style of house / funk / electro hasn’t changed which is a good thing.

wrangler. Very good from Stephen Mallinder ( cabaret Voltaire / creep show ). Analog synths and vocoders.

Cold Beat. Really enjoyable female vocal, synth. Mentioned earlier.

Omar S. One of the best straight up house records I’ve heard in a good while. Weirdly each track starts with the same vocal sample. Not as ‘Detroit techno’ as the work he’s best known for.

Och. Instrumental droney pysch. It’s OK, you need to be a real fan but of this stuff to enjoy.

Having listened to it a few more times I think it's the weakest of the most recent three by Caribou (still good though) and I agree with your points. It's a tad too glossy compared to previous work.

Enjoyed Cold Beat, but not to the extent others have.

Never heard of SYT. Listened to a few songs as a result and I've liked what I've heard of this album so going to dig in.

Gave it a first listen earlier today. It's a weird one. The tracks taken indiviually are fine but it just seems incredibly one paced. There's nothing up tempo or, for that matter, really slow on it. Everything is a midpaced nu-grunge slow builder.

The legend that is Sonic Boom (Spaceman 3 ) has just put out his first song in years. It’s obviously great. I’m buzzing that’s he’s back.

I really like that Grimes record. In places it's bloody excellent pop, mixed in with a bit of the usual Grimes weirdness. Feels like her most complete record yet.
