Never won on a Friday Night

Think that worked out well because the mags would’ve relegated us in our next match.

That 4-1 defeat was painful enough but if it had have sealed our fate it would’ve been twice as bad
Yeah, they would still be wanking giver it now....just like the 5under1nd game when they last beat us at home about 40 years ago!

I’d be interested to know how many times we’ve played in a Friday night in the prem. Actually, I wouldn’t because I hate shit stats like this! No offence to the OP intended.

QPR at home in the first season at the SOL was a proper sucker punch that derailed our automatic promotion bit. 2-0 and pretty much cruising before two late Mike Sheron goals. That was a good Friday night game iirc
Only recall that game cause it was on the same day as the Good Friday agreement day

4 apperantly
The game I can’t remember one second about is the Sheff U play off semi second leg at the SoL
I can just because of Perez double save

'Never won on a Friday night in the Premier League'.

Everyone proceeds to name games that weren't in the Premier League.

Turns out we've only ever played once and it was a 0-0 draw
Someone posted we’ve played 4 times in the Pl I can’t find the post now bloody typical

Found it
Since 2007, we've played 11 games at home on a Friday.
Winning 4, drawing 5 and losing twice

Some of those will be afternoon games on a Good Friday

Last Friday night game was the 0-1 defeat to Hull in Jan 2024 when Beale was manager
Last victory was the play off game v Sheff Wed in 2022

The infamous game at Barnsley in late March '95 when Dominic Matt (whatever his name) played and shouldn't have because his loan from Liverpool had not been registered. Struggling Sunderland duly lost, manager Mick Buxton departed and Peter Reid arrived, albeit without a contract, until the end of the season. The Football League did not penalise Sunderland with a points deduction. That was a stroke of luck, for once.

Yeah it was absolutely freezing as well. There were qpr fans rocking up in t shirts looking like they had hypothermia. As you say was a shocker. I was at west brom on the Monday too which I think finished 3-3. We had just got into the ground and west brom were awarded a corner, the ball blatantly off their player, bang goal from the corner, fucks sake.

That's look north sports headline sorted then. Sunderland who have failed to win on a Friday night in any of their previous top flight encounters in the clubs 147 year history.
