NEPL 2019

What sort of team to Brandon have this season?
They’ll compete, I think they’re quietly confident they can challenge for the title - which I think they should do based on the fact all of the team will have considerable NEPL experience.

Muchall has stayed on and should fill his boots runs and wickets wise, but I also think it won’t be easy for them, they’ll need to be professional and guard against complacency because there’s some good sides and good cricketers in the division.

What’s probably refreshing to the members though, is that most of the side will be Brandon lads. I think the club went too far the other way, but at the same time I can understand why they did it.

All in all I think the structure of NE cricket is very good, even if wicketkeeper won’t agree

Did Rushy play for Hylton today? Next week I notice they play Kimblesworth. That will be tough for him what with their terrific 'banter'. Like the test match he never had.

More paid players in the Whitburn line up than SN’s yesterday... surely people can’t be happy to see teams buy their success? Or is it okay because they’re from South of the river?
The lads who did the damage with the bat for Whitburn are both Whitburn through-and-through - Came through the junior ranks, both of them.

How many of South North's major contributors are a product of their junior system? I honestly don't know but I'd be surprised if the ones that do play aren't only there to back up the big guns like Du Toit, Wightman, Tindale and Hewison. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any of them are from the South North area?

Buying success? Whitburn, alongside the likes of Hetton are consistently bringing through young players. It’s ridiculous to compare a club like that to SN, who run on a totally different model.

Five of Whitburn's 1st team on Saturday are products of their junior section - even more of their 2nds come from the same source. Clubs playing at the top level will always have a number of players who are attracted by the opportunity to play at that level and, possibly, other incentives.

To try and compare how Whitburn operate to what South North have done consistently for a number of years is laughable.
