Nelson to Dundee

Yes. After all, Henderson, Colback, Pickford, Watmore, Honeyman, Gooch, Asoro, Maja, Kimpioka, Mumba and Robson were never given a look in.

I say we're one of the best in the country at giving academy lads a go. If they are let go it's due to them not being deemed good enough. Not that many let go from our academy that have gone on to make us regret the decision, at least compared to some clubs.
All of those made a breakthrough at a higher level Premier or Championship. We are now in the 3rd division and have a Premier League Academy. If we don't give them a go now they'll be lucky to get one.

How do you know he can do a job at this level? Have you seen him play, and even if you have, he hasn't played at the level yet so no-one knows. And those that can hazard an informed guess are the manager and coaches, surely?

I liked the lad...seen him at Hetton quite a few times and always totally committed and got stuck in.I wish him all the best.

Hence why when someone came in for someone who we won't be giving a go we took the deal...

Good move for him. Needs games. Nice length deal up at Dundee. Needs to get going. If he didn't get injured at start of season, may have had more opportunities here TBH

Aye, that’s my point mate. I feel some of our young players just need a run in the team and a bit of patience and they’ll turn out to be better than the more experienced players in the team.

Aye agree but at same time they train every day and the markers will be there whether or not they can make it. There was a lot of buzz with Maja (and others) when we were in the premier & then he got injured in the CH seasons pre season.

Can't remember a buzz ever around Nelson. He's 22 so done well to get a wage for so long. Now got a fantastic opportunity to play regular football in SPL. Dundee are terrible & he'll not be on a lot but if he can play well against some bigger teams he'll be okay

Has anybody any idea when robson will return from injury, he looked ok the few time I have seen him, also think his contract runs out this year

Maybe I should have said IF he could do a job at this level. I genuinely don't know. My post was a question. That question being, is he really not good enough? I know it's a new regime, but it's not been beyond us in recent years to let go of players only to replace them with shitter, more expensive players.

Yeah, it was more of a general point I was making rather than saying Nelson deserved to start for us. Although I’d of liked to of seen him in the checkatrade or one of the other cups before letting him go.

Anyway good luck to the lad, I hope he does well in Scotland.

He should be playing not out on loan, it doesn't need over complicating. I honestly believe that Kimpioka, Mumba and Embleton are better than some of our regular starters. The loan element doesn't only relate to this season, we've done it for years bringing other teams young uns on while ours struggle to get a game. Long term we need to change focus, Southampton being the model.

In the past they weren’t given a chance because they weren’t good enough at the level we were at. The ones that were good enough were given an opportunity (Henderson, Colback, Pickford). Last season plenty were given a chance who weren’t good enough even at championship level.
