Livingstone who was called up in Pakistan, it’s not the only way you can select player, it’s one measure for sure but the landscape is changing and just ruling out players who only play CC Al year is just cutting your nose off to spite your face

He’s not a bad batsman to be fair, could certainly see a way he gets in the side if they have Woakes at 7 in a four-man seam attack or if Ahmed is 8 in a game on a dry deck they expect to turn such as Old Trafford.

I’m not convinced we’re even having the right debate. With three frontline seamers and a fit Stokes we pick a frontline spinner. With three and someone who can barely walk. after a wet spring even if it’s turned nice the last fortnight. For a series that finishes in July. Not sure we bother. I’d rather have a fourth seamer as our stock bowler than Ali.

I’ve attempted to discuss the merits of giving an incredibly promising young English cricketer a chance to succeed and to grow (and to fail, if needs be, in order to grow further) over giving the opportunity to a hasbeen who turned his back on First Class cricket a number of years ago. If we’re going down that path, why not ask Graeme Swann to make a comeback?
Look, we both know that I know who you are and so therefore I know full well how this goes if I want to pursue it - I don’t, because I’ve said what I have to say on the matter and I’m too experienced at this game to know that there’s absolutely nothing I can say that will make you understand my point of view.
