Mike Ashley on the high street

Seems a reasonable solution, tax online outlets which have far fewer overheads than retail premises, and also give the high street a better chance of surviving long term.
Look at it this way, amazon and the like may seem cheap as fuck at the minute but once they've disposed of the competition what's to hold them back from raising prices once consumer choice has been lessened. Plus the massive online places fuck us all over tax wise to begin with
Also no shops and a shit load of pubs and cafés etc will close too as the foot fall will just disappear from town centres.
There'll just be a load of takeaways and drive thru McDonald's
Tax Amazon’s use of cardboard. That’ll sort it!

Great so people who work for internet companies lose their jobs instead and their suppliers etc etc. He’s talking utter shit because it suits sports direct.l, seeing as though they haven’t bothered to do much online.

The High St has to change.

The brands could exist if all stores become more 'collection' points for things you buy online and want to collect.

That's the difference - Amazon will generally take 24hrs to get to you - the high street could manage 1hr click and collect.

They just won't take that leap of faith.

Went to the commons to talk about the state of the high street and one solution is to tax online sales.

When is the solution not to further increase taxes? The high street can fuck off for me, who needs it.

Aye, let’s all use amazon to buy China manufactured goods delivered by a US company that pays virtually no Corp tax

Cracking deal for the uk

Fair play to Argos, they were ahead of the game 20 years ago

They do £400 million per year. Huge numbers.

Stop out of town sheds popping up all over, oh and maybe start taxing Amazon and the like correctly rather than the 0 they pay at moment. I hope they didn't mean tax the consumer ??

He was asked how save the high streetsand gave a common sense answer

Id personally like to see vat deductions on bricks and mortar purchases mind

Tax online sales...is he f***ing joking?
Online you have a wider choice, more chance of an item being in stock, no travelling expenses, no fuck on parking etc. etc...

He actually said it would force Sports Direct to change as they have a 63/35 split of store/online sales.

It seems you havent bothered to read or listen to what he said

Asked how he would save the high street, he gave answers which seem like they would save the high street and also try and limit the impact of online taking over retail completely
