Marty tweet- disappointing news on the way

He's got a son hasn't he? Why would he bugger off to play cricket at the other end of the country where he will see him less?

It all stinks after other recent departures.
Is his wife local or maybe she's moving down South to be home or for a job and he wants to be close to his kid. No point speculating or having a go at the club with zero suggestion they've done anything wrong, there's more than enough to have a go at that we do know about.

Disappointing to see Rushy leave but wish him all the best and thank him for all he's done, we couldn't have asked for more.

Someone said above he’s been through a divorce. I don’t know if it’s true. But if it’s messy and he needed to leave the area, they’ve done the decent thing

It’s guesswork of course

Yeah I know that's true, not sure if they were married or not but he's separated from his lass aye. It's all personal stuff and that's why I'm not speculating about owt specific just a general feel of the club letting him/us down.

Had no idea this was going to happen but strangely for some reason i'm not surprised.
Great player for the club and hope he keeps going for a few seasons.

As far as Durham are concerned the 2nd overseas player for next season needs to be a quality opening bowler.

That was already the case imo. It depends how much we want to push from promotion compared to how much we want to still provide plenty of time for young players but arguably I'd say we need 2 bowlers at least in. 2 new opening bowlers, Raine and coughlin might see battle for promotion. Coughlin will miss alot of time and Raine presumably at the hundred so they likes of mcalindon, Gibson will still get chances. Potts and carse I doubt we'll see much of

Yeah agree. two overseas batsmen last season was not required and a specialist bowler was. With Rushy off the wage bill and Potts on an ECB contract hopefully there is enough money in the pot. Probably entice the former Yorkshire captain out of retirement.

It's only an incremental deal for Potts. Always been curious if that means we get paid only when he played for them or if it also covers when they decide he needs to rest.

We can't really use any of that as he isn't if the wage bill. If he doesn't get picked for England next summer we'd still be paying him - another reason why having England players is and absolute negative to country cricket competitiveness

Rushy in county terms is on a good screw definitely what an overseas would be paid. As far as Pottsy goes Durham get a set compensation fee and then payments each time he plays for England. Although his new 3 year deal he will be on a lot more than his last deal.

Ok so as suspected, nowt when they tell him to rest so he doesn't play for us and we still pay him?

Utterly shafted.

Still think we need two bowlers if we want to be really competitive

Gutted by this. End of an era, a pleasure to see him play, being at CLS for the game vs Northants in 2014 will always be in my memory. Best wishes to him, and a big thank you.

Durham in deep you know what. How many bowlers do we need now?
Carse away with the Lions/injured
Coughlin Injured
Raine away playing The Hundred
MacAlinden promising not much too early to depend on
Gibson not quite as promising but still too early to depend on.

*Macalindon stress fractures weren't it? Worrying injury.

Both very raw and carse and coughlin are almost permanently rusty as they can never get a run of games going.

I want two new bowlers but suspect we'll be lucky to find someone useful on the county circuit and end up with one overseas and lots of bairn games

The problem is for a county like Durham who don't generate much income themselves they need players on central contracts. The ECB will still play a decent percentage if his contract.

That's a massive shock seeing Rushy leave, I thought he'd have another couple of seasons left at least. I wonder if the fact that Durham will be playing amongst the dead men for at least the next two seasons has anything to do with it. There's no promotion next year, and regardless where they finish they'll still be in the bottom tier of the new 3 division set up the year after. So basically it's going to be at least 2 seasons before red ball cricket becomes a priority again and Rushy will be 38 then Maybe the club have written the next two red ball seasons off and decided to throw everything at the T20 comp? I can't see the club spending any money on the championship team for a season or two now as there's no benefit in it to them, and by the looks of things the club is skint so any savings on wages now is a bonus.
Rushy has been a fantastic servant to the club over the years and always gave his all, whatever the reason for him leaving I hope it works out well, and if he's not playing T20 games wherever he ends up it'd be great to see him down the Riverside for one of our games.
