On a slightly related note I've been following the hashtag today #WhyteTrial regarding the sale of Rangers by Sir David Murray for a quid to craig whyte.

Murray was in the dock today. Some interesting quotes from him regarding how the club was ran and how he'd taken a back seat as it took up too much time. Touches on the finances too

Makes me wonder if Bain will be called as a witness

Just need him to say or to do something. Relegation and Moyes combined are going to have our attendances down to 15/16k. It's a level of sickness of fans I've not seen before
No chance. A summer off, the release of new fixtures, selling Borini and Kone, handful of new signings.....people will be energised for the new season regardless.

Byrne was the worst too. Makes you think, oh I don't know, THAT ELLIS IS THE f***ing ISSUE.
When she was there, we stayed up. Now we aren't.

I'm not saying she was directly responsible for that, but when people said she did a bad job they tended to not have a foundation for that.

The problems started around the Bruce era. Too many loan players, meaning a total rebuild after every season. This rebuild sort of happened but we kept on filling the squad with loanees, and each season the quality of these players worsened.

We must have spunked millions on these loan deals. The money could have been better spent on bringing in one or two quality players that we actually could say were our players.

I assume most are aware that Martin Bain is a good personal friend of Moyes & they grew up together hence why he's gannin nee where!
I can assure you they did not grow up together. Permatan went to a private school in glasgow and played rugby. Sad Davie, not so much

'from the get go' annoys me more

type of thing Bain would say though

Still 3 years left on his contract and we are skint so unless we take a provy out we're lumbered with the useless twat.

Its fuck all to do with compensation, nothing to do with why they haven't sacked him.

Don't agree

Trouble was certainly on the horizon:

'Allardyce’s exit also left him helming the search for Sunderland’s seventh manager in five years and helping identify – and swiftly secure – a fellow Glaswegian, David Moyes, with the former Everton, Manchester United and Real Sociedad coach installed on Saturday morning. Yet, even before the FA came calling, trouble was brewing on Wearside.

'Not only had Allardyce complained that “my patience is wearing thin – very, very thin indeed” when none of the three or four swift signings he had wanted were made but Ryan Sachs, the club secretary, suddenly stepped down with no explanation offered to the media.

'If club secretaries can come and go without calamitous consequences Sunderland’s failure to make a transfer breakthrough represents a genuine concern, particularly as Allardyce was adamant that, without strengthening, the team would be destined for yet another relegation struggle. It does not help that 35 miles down the road at Middlesbrough, Aitor Karanka has recruited virtually an entire XI of new players.....

'.....Bain, meanwhile, adopted a strong stance in the fight against sectarianism in the Glasgow area, taking the bold step of criticising Rangers’ fans in certain instances. A comparable blend of diplomacy and sometimes brutal honesty will be required at a club at times bedevilled by internecine internal politics during Byrne’s watch.

'Despite the gargantuan new Premier League television deal – which presumably helped persuade him to swap Tel Aviv’s Tzuk and Metzitzim beaches for the somewhat chillier, slightly less sophisticated, sands at Roker and Seaburn – Sunderland’s last set of accounts highlighted a £25m deficit and there is a pressing need for a club kept afloat by repeated cash injections from Short to finally become self-sustaining.

'Despite departing Israel with a “heavy heart”, Bain clearly wanted a new challenge. He is already discovering it to be significantly more sizeable than originally envisaged.'

Basically what Poyet stated today on talk sport.
Was gentleman enough but hinted total lack of investment.

Fuck all to do with investment, we have spent loads, just spent it on shite, with no coherent plan

I am still stunned that people think the answer would have been to throw even more money at players, we would have just wasted that too.

What on earth makes you think that a few days after we signed Lens and Borini for 22 million, that with even more money we would have signed a gem

Not sure I agree with that, although maybe some truth

We haven't build up any network or areas where we can get easy access to players.

You need contacts, Bruce had them, Big Sam had them, and he could get players out of France to Sunderland.

Its complicated, can't just target players off a list and expect them to come. Look at how Watford get players out of Italy.

Our main issue is we don't know who to buy

Very easy article to put together without actually taking any time to check whether what is put to print says anything we don't already know. "Identify and secure" Moyes....ffs Short had asked him before Allardyce, he was out of work and was obviously the primary target.

As regards Allardyce losing patience over a lack of signings....why the fuck would you allow an outgoing manager to spend the little money that was available for transfers when he wouldn't be here after signing them.

The challenge Bain faced was sizeable....no getting away from it, but he and his fellow Glaswegian have made it immeasurably worse with their decisions since.

The "£25m deficit" was wiped out with the £25m extra tv money and the wage bill was shorn of £15m from bit part players. It was an opportunity to make a fresh start which was squandered and the rush to apportion blame anywhere but where it actually lies is embarrassing.

Sam was annoyed he wasn't getting what he wanted before England came knocking man.

But it will be 15-20k less people who are energised, sadly matchday revenue will become important to the club again but the product they served us won't bring many buyers
