Didn’t you just say our owners didnt do enough to keep him, should have offered more money, could have done more to avoid this situation? Now you’re saying it’s a fantastic move for him which implies he was never staying in the first place. You aren’t being entirely consistent here. And just an observation, but you seem to be taking this far more personally than just about anyone else. Enjoy your day marra. I’ve got gutters to clean.
The R:lol:t is all over the shop today.

My only concern here would be his commitment until end of season, how do these things work, does he a sign a pre-contract agreement to sign for a new club and regardless of what happens he starts with that club on a certain date and they start paying his wages, or could that be scuppered by an injury.

If injury could screw his deal, then my concern would be he doesnt give 100% effort each game for us until end of the season.

Why wasn't his contract sorted out by the previous regime?

The youngsters were the only bright spark last season and yet Maja, Gooch, Hume, Honeyman & Embleton etc have been allowed to enter the final year of their contracts despite showing some promise.

Luckily it looks like most will sign but we're set to lose our most important player for a pittance in the Summer.

It's another scenario where lack of foresight has affected us here, even more of a shame because Maja is the most talented of our young crop and he's the one wanting to move on.

I'm glad he's at least staying till the end of the season and I'm confident his attitude won't turn bad.

I've said it before but once it got to 12 months left on his deal, it was already too late. Stewart Donald is 100% right that 5 appearances in first team should trigger a wage rise and extra year on contract for young players.

I already think it's too late for Embleton too, maybe with him being a local lad he might sign up. But the entire Championship would happily take a flyer for free on a young, english midfielder who is looking very good in L2.

Genuine question, and try not to swear or be abusive when you reply.
Why is everyone with a different opinion to you on a wind up.
Why is everyone with a different opinion to you wrong.

He said I was on a wind up for dareing to suggest spending any money on the side, even though they have said themseles they will

Genuine question, why do you blindly back anything the owner does, I've agreed with 95% of their decisions, doesn't mean you can't question somethings, you won't even entertain a thought, never mind a discussion

well Embleton 100% should have been sorted in the summer, I don't understand why he wasn't

Seeking attention as always.

Speaking the truth like, unlike the usual suspects blowing smoke up each other's arses

So you wanted the new owners to give Maja 10k a week at the start of the season when he had done virtually nothing and with the owners also knowing that high earners in league one earn between 4/6k a week?

Negotiations have been going on for months and the club have no doubt offered him more as he's continued to impress but you don't simply just agree what is asked by an agent straight away without seeing some progress from the player and in the end we offered him what he wanted and that has shown not to be good enough....if anything, it's probably shown his agent has been looking to move him on for a while now and they've had no intention of signing a new contract.

He wouldn't have wanted a high earning contract at the start of the year

So that is a completely different point

And we haven't given him 10k at any point

As long as he stays till end of the season not fussed now anyway, promotion is key

and what wages would you have offered him? in the summer we had rto prioritise players for SAFC in the coming season, embleton wasnt in the managaers immediate plans..

well Embleton 100% should have been sorted in the summer, I don't understand why he wasn't

Nah, he should've been sorted before the summer. Academy prospects are our best chance of getting a top quality player.

Luckily, Stewart Donald has identified it already and after this wave we shouldn't have a problem.

We are another league one club, we deserve to be here and have to run the club like a league one club. Nobody spends that sort of money in this league

That is why 95% of them end up not getting promoted

And quite a few people have said why can't we sign players for next year which can get us over the line

Its a hell of a gamble not spending any money on the team this year, probably might get promoted, but the consequences of not getting promoted are disastrous

Thats more of a gamble then spending 2mill on some players, I mean its pittance, we've been getting crowds of 38k and 46k

Nah should have been sorted this summer too

the problem is the manager surely has an imput into whether we offer first team players contracts and we didnt have a manager for a bit of the summer.

Think you've answered your own question there mate, contracts weren't sorted because the old regime didn't have a clue what was going on.

but any money we gave maja in the summer could have been wasted if he werent up to the standard of this league...the offer now is just under ten grand..if the stories are true and he is going to germany it shows he couldnt get aprmeier league mone..which shoiws the level he is at,...as the owner said...the conversations he had were from clubs saying they were happy to wait and see...he isnt that highly rated..

The summer is too late, I've already said. 1 year on the contract and the vultures are circling.

Maja would have had to be an idiot to sign in the summer, knowing that he's gonna get a chance to play and potentially put himself in the shop window. It's why some clubs imnediately try to sell players when their contracts are in the last year.

You haven't agreed with 95% of their decisions man, you criticised them all summer and you are criticising them now. This I like the owners but doesn't wash.
I have said consistently over Maja that they needed to offer him a decent deal and that of they didn't then they need to be accountable for that. But I will wait for proof one way of the other before ranting they have done things wrong. That is not being unquestioning, its waiting for facts.
I admit I can't agree that they should have offered him what he wanted in August, like you do, when when we had no idea how he would perform. What if he's been shite.

It could be possible that he wanted to stay and the offer was good one from the board. But he got an offer to move to a team in the top 2 divisions who are offering more money that we can't match. We won't the facts until the summer. I think people on here want to blame the owners for this mess. But the damage was done last season. We knew clubs had their eye on Asoro and Maja and we let their contracts dwiddle down instead of offering contracts to the young players coming through.

It may have been said already but what's disappointing for me here is that it appears we aren't going to be able to persuade him to stay with us. It feels small time. Not really the new owner's fault, nor is it Maja's - 4k fans through the gates or 40k, we are still a league one club.

It is also clear this is another example of the inadequacies of our previous regime, who should have been smart enough to build triggers in to his (and others') previous deals, protecting the club and allowing us the option to extend based on appearances/performances. Sadly we (they) were probably too busy trying to fight court cases so we didn't have to pay millions of pounds for players who don't even play for us (eg Alvarez).
Then again, the exact same could happen with this new regime.

They’ve known the likes of Maja, Gooch, Stryjek, Embleton and Hume were out of contract in the summer since the day they walked in, and so far they’ve only sorted one.

Maybe they have to revisit what they see as ‘fair’ offers.

Should have been more pro-active about the whole situation. Should also have never played it out so publicly imo.
