Fuck me, have you learned nowt :oops:

At the end of the day Eddie lad the owners got the club for a song. Get us back up into the championship and the value will soar. I am not expecting them to throw money at players but the playing side needs some investment if they want to secure promotion. Now we may get promoted with what we have but we may not. Investing a few bob now may just help the cause... that’s my tuppence worth .

Maybe but they could have a little more like

We had 2 strikers at the start of the year and was an 18 Year old youth player

Sorry but that’s not good enough

Depends how you define it. Wyke, Maja, Maguire, Sinclair and Watmore have all played as forwards and were all here at the turn of the year.

We're in a great position, you don't need to spend a load to get out of League 1.

"We need to wean the fans off the heroin drip of owners' money" (C.Methven). Some are clearly having withdrawal symptoms.

You think it’s ok to start the season with 1 senior striker? Genuine question

Fair.

I’m not saying loads but we could have targeted players who would be good enough next year and also get us up

I agree, it’s just a tad risky.

Don't get me wrong, I'm expecting a good goalscoring forward to be signed this month as a minimum. We're in a good position, worth a calculated gamble to add to the squad now.

It will require millions to get to the Premier League and then tens of millions to stay there. Unfortunately this is the reality of modern day football and that money will have to come from somewhere.

Do you think they are in it for the long haul? Or, do you think they will double their assets value and bail out?

Get nowhere without investment.

Unless you're one of those that loves us being in this position, so you can lord it over fans who dare to ask the owners to be ambitious?

Lets just stay in league one for life, its safer here

We can just stay in league one, and be a proper little club

Yep true

I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt in the summer, had a lot to do

By only point really is that looking after money, sustainability is needed of course, but it’s still a game and you do have to gamble slightly sometimes

I don’t see buying a couple of good players a gamble personally anyway, it’s an investment

They can’t be really unless Juan injects funds

Sad but the reality of football

It doesn't look as if our owners have any money.
It's all well and good asking the fans to turn up in numbers, 110,000+ in the last 3 home games, but the owners need to invest some money or we will be wallowing in mediocrity for a long time.

Good question, depends on a few things, maybe there will come a point where they think they can’t take it further and sell, or really go for it and find the investment that football needs these days. My gut feel is that they will want us in the big league and see where it takes us.

I think someone will make them an offer that “they couldn’t turn down” and move on.
They might believe in their product at the moment but I’m sure they believed in their last one too

The owners ask us to turn up and we do and that extra money maybe needs to be invested in the first team. As someone said above we don’t need to break the bank (again) just bring a couple of reinforcements with some quality to make sure we have a fighting chance of going up.

What you can't do, which is the mistake Drumaville made, is spend the entire financial benefit of any promotion on getting there in the first place. It all has to start from a sustainable base. What Charlie means is getting away from the expectation that unlimited funds will be thrown around. I'm not saying investment won't be needed, but it needs to be commensurate with where you are, rather than where you're trying to get to. Probably the best person to explain this was Nicola Cortese - see under "Business style". No owner has an unlimited desire to pour money into a club - Abramovic pulled the plug on pouring money into Chelsea long before his visa problems. Looking at both Short and him, it seems to be around 15% of net worth. Then they say "enough's enough". Controlled investment is one thing, chucking cash around is another. And, wherever possible, you should try to fund it from player sales rather than loans. You often hear the phrase "speculate to accumulate" - a more succinct description of that is gambling. And, as any punter will tell you, gambling only pays when you're winning.
