exactly. so this so called 'deadline' being 4th january is a good move by the club. even if its not a 'deadline' in the truest sense of the word, it gives us the maximum chance of coming out of it stronger, which ever way it goes. in the past there would have been no deadline, maja would have went on holiday for the whole of january without any means of communication, would have returned, we would have offered him £100k per week, then he would have got injured, we would sign someone like Lua Lua on a free and it all goes tits up.

If Donald has said today. Right then fair enough no contract then we get a replacement that would make sense.

He didn’t though. He just kept saying he will try to get him to change his mind so it’s still dragging on. It hasn’t come to an end that a deadline would enforce.

In don’t blame the club for getting him to sign a new contract and I don’t blame him for not wanting to sign another contract. I just don’t understand why this ‘deadline’ was made public when a) I didn’t need to be and b) it still hasn’t stopped anything because we are still continuing to get him to sign.

All it has done is cause hell on while he is still here needlessly. It could have all been done behind closed doors, and replacements, presuming we would want to sell now, could still have been targeted and brought in.

So, now that the story is unfolding and it's quite clear from the horses mouth (SD) that it's not a case of 'if the club sells Maja now it's because a few extra quid is more important than keeping your most important player when challenging for promotion' (copyright @samaistonsrightfoot ), how much should he be sold for in this window under the present circumstance ?
What price would allow JR to find a regular goal scorer at league one level, an attacking midfielder and an extra centre back.
I say £4 million.

Not a hope in hell. Be lucky to get £2m to £2.5m

fuck him. who does he think he is? he is currently a league 1 standard striker. we are offering very good league 1 standard wages for a 20 year old, and no doubt a clause to up his wages to championship level money if we go up.

what the fuck does he want? greedy bastard. been with us since he was 16, now too good for us. heard it all before.
Here here ....

The first public revelation was instigated by Maja's agent to Sky. You do our owner a disservice there.
Let's hope there is at least one club prepared to steal a march on the rumoured others then.

Agree with sky/his agent having a part but it’s been brought to a head by announcing this deadline.

Is Margaret Byrne his agent?????.. Seems funny that he says yes one minute to one person and then changes his mind when talking to another in less than 24 hours????

agree it should have been done behind closed doors.

even though we are still trying to get him to sign (rendering the deadline not really a deadline) at least we now know what his position is. we can chase other players whilst still trying to get Maja to sign. if he said 'i'll let you know by the end of January' then that would have been a disaster for us as we couldn't do anything during the window. theres nowt wrong with still trying to change his mind whilst simultaneously trying to sign a replacement.

wish it wasn't all so much in the public domain though. hopefully Stewart Donald and them know what they are doing

This thread was on 18 pages when I last looked. What’s happened? I can guess he’s not signing. Has someone bid for him?
We offered what Maja wanted (probably the agents initial demands).
Maja went to tell Jack Ross yesterday he will sign.
Agent told Maja not to sign and told Sky this without informing the club.
SD has had a go at agent on twitter and said we will aim to change his mind.

If anything, it sounds like an extension to the deadline to me.

See the fact there is disharmony and questioning of him tells me it isn't to the clubs or his advantage. Deal with things through official club ways. That happens and there is none of this and we'd all (or the majority) be happy.

Its not for me him dealing with things on twitter.

Yep. Agree.

Maybe he has more than one agent? I don't know if this is permitted but I see no reason why not. Bit like selling yer gaff to the highest bidder on a no sale no fee. Who knows? It's an insane world, marra....

If he signs elsewhere for less money than we’ve offered, fair enough. What odds do you reckon I’d get for that though?

I’d presume if he goes to a premier league club he would naturally get more money than a league 1 club would be prepared to offer.

But he isn’t saying ‘give me 30k a week to sign’. He saying he doesn’t want to sign despite the club agreeing to match his request.

I don’t blame any player wanting to leave league 1 for the premier league.
