So what would you have done? You'd prefer someone behaving like Ridsdale at Leeds, and coming in with opening offer to players that were twice what they were expecting? I have no problems with Donald using Twitter to spike fake news, because that's the only way he can be sure what he wants to get out won't be subject to the same distortion as the original story. The only villain here is Keven Hunt.

Oh, and I've never claimed to be a "top financial expert". I'm just someone with a professional qualification who tries to explain things that aren't necessarily obvious to non-accountants.

Come on GOM, the answer to this question is never 'I'd prefer him to be more like Ridsdale at Leeds' is it? There's an enormous middle ground that the overwhelming majority of good football club owners inhabit. I'd have preferred him to act in that fashion, dignified, giving the player a chance to potentially change his mind and dealing with it in a way that doesn't take anything off the table.

Huddersfield, Palace and Cardiff are all interested, with the player's contract is up in the summer. Wonder what sort of reception he'll get at the SOL next season
If he thinks his long term career is better with them after playing on Boxing Day and at Blackpool than close the door on your way out.

As it happens I think he will be our player until the summer, and may still sign if we get promoted. His agent obviously wants to see what interest he/she can drum up and which club is in what division in 6 months.

This is such the wrong atttitude its untrue, he has been playing well he got us 4 points last week, despite knowing he was ooff

he isn't a parasite

We aren't going to the win the league with a bunch of Luke O'Niens playing, we need quality.

You seem to learn nothing
is maja leaving like?

This narrative is so f***ing ridiculous

Like there is nothing between self sustainability and the worst owner in premier league history

You can't be tweeting stuff like that, its so unhelpful, you seem like a sensible lad, how can't you see that?

He just made the situation ten times worse, I think a lot of players and agents won't want to touch the club, and I now can see the player getting dog's abuse despite his last minute back track

I think there was always going to be some difficulty to play Maja once it became known he's not signing.......don't see how Donald has affected that, given that Sky are making it common knowledge.
What longer term difficulty is there?

Makes it much harder to sign a new striker now clubs know we will be having a goal deficit to fill.

I want the club to be in control , we have had agents taking the piss for years..if we agreed to their requests then they go direct to the media and pay no respect to the club then I am happy for the club to do whats necessary ..
Maja can leave for mean we need to get some respect back ..

Not likely. All that needed to be said if anything was that we've offered Josh a good deal and along with his representation they've decided to decline. We'll do everything we feel we can to resolve this with the player without compromising our wage structure.

Instead of that we've now got an owner who is building a reputation for constantly slating agents. When it comes to future transfer targets do you think agents are likely to react kindly to attention from Sunderland if they know they'll potentially get called out directly from Donald?
Except what Donald has actually said is that Maja hasn’t declined the offer of a contract, he’s told the club his agent has advised him not to sign it after informing the club he wanted to sign it.

I’d be happy for us to avoid having any further dealings with an agent who is quite actively trying to fuck the club over for his own gain like.

There are alternatives to this that aren't 'the Ridsdale method' like

Long term he doesn't. He hasn't handed in a transfer request or asked to move immediately. He had a contract. He's willing to see it out and leave. There's a difference people need to get their head around and stop being idealistic.

Defoe signed a new contract and inserted a clause to allow him to leave mid contract for free so he got the transfer fee as a bonus instead of us making any money on him. He agreed to sign for them before we had even been relegated and missed the Chelsea game to have a medical with them but people weren’t bothered about that.

Now people are up in arms blaming Maja for seeing out his contract.

I don’t get it.

Then just ignore me, muffin....because I think you’re full of shit also.

They offered what the agent wanted, what more do you think the owners should have done?

He knew he was off yet told Ross yesterday he was signing?

We also need players who want to be here, if Maja does then he’ll sign

We need to get promoted, he is our best chance, no logic in not keeping him, he knew he was off but got us 4 points last week

can't see how he can stay now after the Donald tweets
