Silly question from this ignorant oldie but if we withdraw the offer of a new contract does that not leave us vulnerable as regards a tribunal fee, as I understand it a tribunal fee is only due if a contract has been offered, would a contract offered then withdrawn be seen as effectively no contract offer leading to no tribunal fee
No the normal contract rules don't apply because of his young age.

Here's a summary of what I've learned from this thread:
We don't know if Josh will sign.
We don't know what he's on, now.
We don't know what he's been offered.
We don't know the detail of the 'ultimatum'.
We don't know what the club want.
We don't know if anyone else is interested in signing him, nor, for how much.

Have I forgotten anything else we don't know?

This has been a productive read.

Doesn’t bode well for the future imo. Desperately selling your top scorer to earn a few extra quid.

That’s IF that’s what they do.
I don't think we should sell him, BUT I'm not sure it would be desperation, just a business decision to try and get the most value from an asset in the circumstances. No way would we be selling if he his contract wasn't expiring soon.

(I would argue we're better off keeping him either way and him helping us seal promotion but can see the argument for getting as much as we can now IF we have a replacement lined up).

No, but we do know he's better than Kun Aguero.

They don’t want to sell him, they’ve offered him a ‘good’ contract. The ball is now in Maja’s court, if he doesn’t sign he’s shown a lack of commitment and therefore should be fucked off as we need 100% players at the club. We’re learning from past mistakes.

Which is why I’ve been saying a deadline only makes any sense if they are using it as an excuse to peddle him. Pointless giving a deadline if they want him to stay till the end of the season.
The deadline is the club saying they don’t want him for the rest of the season if he does not sign today, if that happens we have 3 weeks to find a replacement and Majas agent can find him a new club. If Maja is still here on Feb 1st because agent has not found him a club then he is part of our squad but at least we have a replacement in place should Majas head not be in a good place.

Just keep him and get the tribunal fee when he leaves, not going to get a great deal with 6 months left on his contract anyway not enough to sign a league 1 top scorer in January and pay his wages anyway.

Don’t agree mate. Maja’s value to us is more than we can get for him money wise. He’s as close to guaranteed goals as you get. We know he has a good attitude knows the players etc. he’s arguably our most important player currently. We aren’t creating much at all but he’s taking the scraps he’s getting.

We spent a million on Wyke and he’s a 14 goal a season league 1 plodder so we are going to have to spend some of the money we get for him and we will still get some money (admittedly not a lot) for him from a tribunal which means we wouldn’t make much profit anyway.

We would be swapping almost guaranteed goals, and the chance of him deciding to stay on later in the season for someone who might score, might settle, might have a good attitude when we are chasing for promotion and probably will need replacing in the summer again anyway IF we go up.

He’s staying behind in training every day shooting at an open net because everyone has gone home begging Craig Samson to find someone to go in goal for him.

Does that sound like a non committed player?

You just agreed with what I said mate

I said I'd keep him. Just don't think it's 'desperation' IF we sell him.

What? Do you mean to say that players of his ability, that want to come and play for us, for the same money as Josh is on aren't ten-a-penny? Who'd have thought?

I agree, I think we’ll cash in on him.

And I’ll back the club in this case too, top scorer or not.

Wouldnt play out well in dressing room. Also went well last 2 times we've got rid of our top scorer in Jan.

It absolutely doesn't show a lack of commitment. He's been honouring his contract all year & his attitude is excellent

I would offer him championship money to be honest it’s an investment good potentially sell him to some idiot if he we go up and he has a good half a season in the championship for a good amount of money.

What don't you understand about his contract running out in under 6 months time and a paltry fee being settled at tribunal ?
This situation is entirely the responsibility of Messrs Bain and Short and has got nothing to do with the new regime moving forward.
What bodes well is the message that the Club will not bend on a fair and reasonable wage structure.

I understand that if the club sell Maja now it’s because a few extra quid is more important than keeping your most important player when challenging for promotion.

I’ve not once mentioned anything about wages or what they should or shouldn’t offer wages wise.

Why do you presume that it's a paltry fee
