Sure SD said 15k is max they can pay in championship never mind league 1

Exactly. The old regime offered either that Tom Naylor or Jon Nolan 12k pw for this year & Donald was kicking off saying that it was ridiculous money for this league.

There's no way on the planet they'd offer him 18k. If Gooches agent got a sniff of that he'd have had our eyes out for his contract anarl.

He's away man, we can't compete for wages and unless he's willing to just stay here for 50% of the money then we need to look at alternatives.

Typical short termism (no pun intended). Maja broke into the first team under Moyes (cup games), after having an excellent pre season, then went on to play fairly regularly 2nd half of last season. Did anyone think of extending his correct? Nope. He could have signed a 3/4 year deal last year if we offered him it.

They may well have. I’ve not seen anything to suggest they did or didn’t offer him a contract tbh But for some reason I’ve always had the understanding we nicked him because they didnt want him for some reason. Similar to how we got Deacon.
I might have this wrong, dementia plays tricks on us oldens but I’m fairly certain that both Maja and Asoro were offered new contracts under the Coleman regime but niether signed, understandably so as it was obvious that the club was in a mess. We then entered the changeover period between owners and Donald is on record as saying the only stipulation they put on old regime during the takeover negotiations was that no new contracts be entered into with the playing staff. Again an understandable position and then circumstances kicked in, Ross would of wanted to assess everyone before new contracts could be offered and the N’Dong Djilobodji sagas took priority

At the end of the day we are where we are due to circumstances that restricted our ability to do a deal rather than a lack of desire to do one

Rings a bell that now actually.

We obviously haven't offered him 18k a week. Not sure why people are even entertaining that idea
Not a chance. Asoro won't be on anywhere near that at Swansea..can see Maja getting offered £5k max with incentives for promotion etc.

On another note just seen the one game wonders on sky sports. Man U keeper came on and played 7 seconds. £600 clean sheet bonus and £500 win bonus in 1999. Mental.

Which is what?

That’s the problem if it’s 6x the reported 600 quid he’s on then it’s a shocking offer if it’s 6 times the 3000 then it’s a good offer

If we’re offering him 5k we need shooting with shit

Every now and again a special talent comes about and budgets and structures need to take a backwards step this boy has all the potential in the world and already doing a job at 20 years old we need to tie this lad down

Hope he stays but people need to remember loyalty in football no longer exists, it's all about the coin in the long term.

He'll be offered about 5k a week, it's what they gave Ozturk.

the contract is for next season..he has a contract for this season and this league...its next season eing negotiated..

Is it? I accept that this isn't universal, but, sometimes contracts replace existing contracts that are still in place. I have no idea whether the contract that has been offered is 'a bigger pile of cash from June', or 'a bigger pile of cash from the day you sign the new contract'. If it was me, I'd be offering the latter, though.

why would they offer their best striker the same as the reserve centre back? and they will be paying lots of players more than that if we go up..

well yes the new contract will probably render the exisintg one null and void..but you do that with a lump sum payment rather than instant wage increase..though the lump sum would equal the increase..so the wage number that matters is the future one..

That’s right - Gooch was signed on a “3 and a half year deal” running out in 2022 - the new contract replaces the old.

Gooch said he’d signed a 3 1/2 year contract implying his new contract is effective from now

Would expect any deal with Maja would be similar

We are in League 1. Other than those on an old contract nobody will be offered big bucks anymore, not even next season if promoted. Live within our means.

Do you? That's a weird contract, then... 'you've signed a new contract that doesn't apply until the old one expires, but, here's a pile of cash to make up the difference' seems strange, especially as the lump sum will mean the term of the lump sum will straddle tax years. Are you sure that this is the case? I get that there can be a one-off 'signing' bonus, but, why would you do this in lieu of wages? I am more than willing to accept that I could be wrong and that we do have a process of new contracts not superceding existing ones, but, if we do, that's mental (but not as mental as some of the things that have gone on, allegedly).

i signed a new mobile phone agreement yesterday..my provider wanted me to sign it, i wanted to sign it, the old one isnt up for a few weeks, still had to pay a (small) lum p sum to move from the old contract to the new prior to the expiry date..

players being sold by a club, even when the player wants to leave, always get a payment from the selling club unless thery put in a written ytranfer request...thats because an existing contract is being ter minated...by accepting the tranfers offer the club is inducing to break the contract, its irrelevant whether the player is happy aboput it or not, they get a payment.

Well, that's down to your piss poor negotiating. You should have words with your agent. :)

How long was the term of your phone contract and how long had you had it? Genuinely interested to know.

Always? That's a brave claim.
