No problem with SD tweeting what he has. I’d rather it was in the public domain when a c unt of an agent acts like this.

No problem with Maja but if he’s going to allow his agent to do this, then we need to sell him now for as much as we can get.

f***ing agents. Set of bastards.
Maja can say no, he's a big lad now.

To all those saying Donald shouldn't have tweeted anything read his last one. It was the agent that contacted Sky so it was them that put it in the public domain. Donald was just clarifying our position. To those saying our offer was derisory read the tweets. We offered what he wanted. Agent obviously wants a pay day which he won't get if he stays.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good moan man!

Then he could have waited there until his agent turned up instead of sending him home to sleep on it.

I don’t believe what Donald is saying happened yesterday actually happened tbh.
how about they said ok..lets phone legal to ndraw the conytract up...then get a copy of ot to maja;s agent..that takes time...this is a vug business not just hiring somoen to navvy..

To answer all those who say it should be in house. Totally agree. His agent phoned sky to tell them - not the club or myself who would have said nothing. The agent has made this public - not to the benefit of the player!!! We are responding not instigating

So we have given him a deadline to which he has responded . The owner tweets and talks about a lack of courtesy and says it will be a busy month and then moments later says we will try and change his mind

Do we have a strategy in place re Maja’s Contract situation or not ?

Why do players at this level even need agents? A ronaldo or Messi you can argue would need one for sponsors etc but a league 1 player? Na it’s not right. The most players at this level need is a lawyer.

you cant blame him for moving to better positioned club for more money. Its a short career that can end due to one injury. You can blame him for the way he has gone about it., dragging it on and saying one thing and doing another.

We carry on with wyke up front and honeyman playing off him. Stick Maja in the u18 and let him languish there for the rest of the season.

His agent doesn't sign the contract, Josh Maja does. If he wants to stay and we have offered the money he's asked for then the decision lies with him not his agent.

You can dress this up how you like but at the end of the day all of this is the agents doing. You can bet your bottom dollar Maja didn't tell Sky Sports News of his decision FIRST before telling the club !!

Agree to an extent, however if the agent has been contacted by say Tottenham or Man City or arsenal for example then he also has to do the ‘right thing’ by the player. He might not have said ‘don’t sign’ just hold on as there are other options. Who knows? If he signs for a big club fair enough, if he signs for smaller club in a higher division, deserves all the stick he gets

I really don’t think that people on here grasp how contract negotiations and football agents work

Wanting transparency is one thing, but you make yourself a lot harder to deal with if you go public in such a way.

Like it or lump it, we have to deal with agents. And footballers who aren’t the brightest. We can say that we are taking a stand, but ultimately we’ll lose

Aye but if he’d signed that would at least be a temporary end to the saga and our interests would have been protected. At present, Maja is still at the club, he hasn’t left, he hasn’t been sold or transfer listed, so there’s technically nowt to announce.

Of course, this situation was created entirely by our own board by setting this one week deadline. It meant that they had to say something if there’d been no movement. It’s just been handed poorly I’m afraid.

I know it’s not popular or the done thing to criticise or question the new owners but this doesn’t look brilliant

He had to announce it when he knew it was going on Sky,marra.

I think somewhere along the line someone is talking pure horse shit. I don’t believe for a second he asked to sign yesterday or we would have sat him down and shoved a pen in his hand.
who said he asked to sign uyesterday? he said he would..he may have said it on the phone? he asked to see the manager..since the manager works at the ground maja asking to see him implies it was out of trainoing time..

the situation was created by the player being out of contract and stories appearing in the press about the clubs interested in him. stewart helped run oxofrd, a smaller club than sunderland for sure but one in this division, this isnt his first rosdeo..

No. The situation this week was created by Stewart. A public deadline was set. Now he’s felt he has had to respond when it has landed and has done so emotively. If the deadline has passed, what are the repercussions? Is he now transfer listed? Is the offer revoked? Or is the public posturing deadline being revoked and they’re still working on getting the deal done?

This situation could have been avoided. Offer him a contract, ask for a final answer in private. If terms weren’t agreed by that date then begin searching for replacements and ei publically announce Maja will be leaving either in January or June. This has been shoddy.
