Mags fanzone in Durham

Washington very much the same nowadays.

Even from the mid nineties onwards it was marginally still more Sunderland and the all the mag types were all season ticketless, non attending plastics who slated Sunderland now and again (usually in the run up to derbies) as didn’t say owt else for most the season.

I was rather shocked mind at the amount of ‘diehard’ mags hosting parties and that for the league cup final last year which included folk I know who used to attend our games from time to time and folk who I genuinely had no idea who liked football, who miraculously do now all of a sudden…..

A lot of the same bunch trot out the whole ‘wuh still shud be part of coonty Durham man’ patter. Some borderlines on hate speech, some of the random bile they put out about Sunderland City. Based on nothing other than the fact they hate being in the local authority area and supporting a rival side. Laughable and tinpot.

They probably couldn’t name any previous managers with the exception of Robson and Keegan.

In fairness Murray getting us the SOL provided us the potential and foundations to be one of the finest clubs in the land, we just haven't realised it yet. Reading his autobiography was quite interesting, the Nissan move was all set to go ahead, but I am delighted it did not. Naturally its all his version of events but I do think on balance he is the best owner we have had in anyone's living memory, albeit the best of a bad bunch. Our gates at the moment are actually historically above what we usually get in the second tier, though post-COVID most clubs in the land get better crowds.

As he himself points out, from the top 20 richest clubs in the world to relegation so quickly, much like 2015 - 2017. He blames Reid's foreign transfer dealings more than anything else.

I've almost finished Murray's book and it's obvious he was frightened of rocking the boat around 2000-2003.

He conveniently blames Reid, when he knew things weren't right and yet didn't have the balls to do something about it and sack Reid much earlier (or at least get him back in line).

Even before he appointed Reid, Murray's research discovered he was a nightmare when setting up transfers - the story about the David Kelly deal sets alarm bells ringing.

As much good as Murray has done, his legacy will be that he always erred on the side of caution instead of following his gut instincts (3 promotions- 1990, 1996, 2005 and then not adequately funding the following season in the top division and also not building on the successes of 1999-2001)

It begs the question why are there so many flakey and frankly odd turncoats in Sunderland, Durham, Seaham, Peterlee, Weardale, Chester Le Street amongst us?

I like to think the NE and our catchment area has genuinely sound people but when it comes to football that clearly isnt the case. Tbh you only have to look at the way some legit Safc fans go on on this forum to see what a queer and awful bunch some of us can be.

They will do, my mag mate says they get berated at every away game when the train pulls into Durham on the way back

Get the mackems off the train is commonly sung
Seriously? Ive seen a fair bit on twitter over the years whereby geordies (eg Shambles Travel) are slating people from Durham who support NUFC telling them they arent welcome  some of it has ended up here tbh.

The one in 1990 irritates me the most - we were gifted the promotion, only two teams went down that year and we put the mags back years. We were in a position to become the NE powerhouse but missed the boat through woeful investment.

Yeah. Many missed opportunities but we were flying in 2000...the collapse in subsequent 5 years was atrocious and far more damaging arguably. Reid not being sacked and replaced earlier was a big mistake.

Mags reckon this fanzome has got us rattled... given what we've been thru over the last 8 years, think we have had bigger concerns
Because their main message board has a thread dedicated to this forum - so screenshots are shared daily.

Ironically, it's their most popular thread on their entire board, with over 28k posts. Obsessed, much?

Assuming you mean that Newcastle online one?

Utterly tinpot board and as you say, for a side playing Champions League football, nearing 30k posts on a thread dedicated to a Championship side is utterly embarrassing.

I'm assuming the average real or mental age of that place is about 8 anarl, weird cartoon meme things of their players faces hoyed in every other post almost, and the C word banded about freely to describe anyone whom they feel a superiority to from atop their fake sportswashed plinths/prams/early learning centre plastic cars.

The place is an absolute clip man.

Not incorrect just your personal experience of who you know and speak to.

I know lots of people in Stanley and Consett areas who profess to be mags who don’t go to games, were only attracted to them back in 1992 or since the takeover…… times in between you hardly knew they were bothered about football.
Where do you live ?
