Looking Ahead. December, Jan and Feb.

What are peoples thoughts on the winter months.
Personally i think that if Boris extends the latest restrictions by two weeks and takes us up until Tuesday 4th Jan, the first working day after the holidays, then he will use Omicrons increased transmissibility as excuse he needs to bow to pressure from the Lockdown enthusiasts.
He promised Xmas would be OK and i believe he wouldn't dare cancel it unless something drastic happened. He'll use our steady figures as the excuse for this, then without any Irony he will dismiss them and use the Omicron "danger" card, even if it transpires that the vaccines are effective against it. We would then have to be prepared to write off Jan, Feb and possibly March.
This is the way the clown operates. Giving and taking then appeasing. I just can't see Javid sticking to his "We will repeal the mandate immediately" promise either.
Although we are all aware of Omicrons unwanted presence, once again it's fallen in Boris' lap.
Having said all that Omicron may be a vaccine evader, in which case we're all up the creek for a while.
Hope i'm proved wrong in both the above scenario's. Glass is half empty today :(

Not sure if we'll be back in full lockdown but when you consider what's happening in most of Europe at the minute the chances of us remaining restriction free in terms of hospitality and allowing capacity crowds at sporting/music events are starting to seem pretty remote IMO.

I really get the feeling that we won't go into any lockdown scenario but wouldn't be surprised if there are some additional restrictions introduced, probably pushing responsibility back to the individual.

For me it’s time the gov just dealt in facts. Tell the public what’s going on, what the risks are and then let us get on with it.

If you want to wear a mask when you go out then wear it. Don’t want to socialise in big groups then don’t do it. Want to social distance, then do it. Want to have the vaccine, have it. Don’t want the booster, don’t have it.

No other part of our life is micro managed by the government this way. The variant cycle is never ending, if that’s the case how do we ever get out of covid? This needs to end now. Let people make their own decisions and get on with our lives. Everything is a risk and covid is now just another risk on the list.

I agree

Omicron cases found everywhere in the UK in increasing amounts, will turn out it's been here for a while. Hospitalisations remain steady. Restrictions removed in a few weeks.

I’m not sure why people think Boris would favour any kind of lockdown, he’s been against them from the start and only used them when the situation has become dire. Unless the situation becomes dire again we won’t see another lockdown (imo of course).
there would have been zero restrictions from day one if he had gotten his way, however as said above, duty of care is one of the drawbacks of the job.

No need for lockdown and they're only a very short term temporary measure anyway. Need as many folk as possible vaccinated.
New variant has milder symptoms but it'll still get a few due to increased transmission.

I’ve said it before and will say it again. If there’s lockdowns then they would need to reintroduce furlough, and I can’t see them [cons] wanting that at all. I reckon we’ll crack on just like we did as the delta variant was emerging when we were coming out of lockdown in June/July

I’d agree, tbh it’s the media as always. We are nowhere needing nearing a lockdown

When i mentioned Boris giving in to the lockdown enthusiasts i didn't mean to imply we would go back to lockdown, That won't happen, i just meant restrictions would tighten. Sorry for any confusion :)

I wouldn't be so sure. Just look at what is happening in the rest of Europe. Of course it would need a big change in government policy but our esteemed PM is not beyond a reverse ferret.

We are in the vast majority vaccinated , if the vaccinations don’t work then what will? Can’t stay locked down forever.
