Look North/Tyne Tees Coverage ***Europa League Special***

BBC just replied to my complaint

Thank you for getting in touch about BBC Look North (North East & Cumbria).

You're absolutely right to pick up on the phrasing used in the Team Talk section of the programme on 23 March.

We are very sorry.

Luke Edwards says he is mortified. He has posted about the incident on social media to try to put things right and apologise. He says: 'I would like to apologise for this. It certainly wasn't my intention to make light of racism. I've found it abhorrent my entire life. It was a clumsy link in a very short segment talking about the game yesterday. I'm very remorseful but it was a mistake. I can only apologise.'

The incident that interrupted the match, and the arrest of fans before the start of the game, were covered in the late evening BBC Look North (NE&C) bulletin broadcast on 22 March and on the Breakfast bulletins on 23 March. The incident was also reported on the main BBC One news evening bulletins on 22 March.

We are very grateful to you for getting in touch and apologise once again for any offence the phrasing may have caused. Senior editors at BBC Look North ((North East & Cumbria) have seen your complaint.”
So no apology from Dawnie tonight 😀
Got exactly, to the word, the self same, generic response from them.

So because they showed it in the witching hour and at breakfast, the two slots with the lowest viewing figures, means its acceptable to the editors/directors to not then show it on the most popular slot!! You really couldn't make it up.

Using the "it was on the big news" excuse is just a piss take. They've never lost an opportunity to repeat the "good news" if its already been shown on the national version. Heard Dawnie say plenty of times, "As you will have seen on the national news!"

I hope everyone is pursuing this further. The cheeky fuckers must think we zip up the back.

He defends VAR when decisions go against Sunderland.
Also defends VAR when decisions go in favour of the scum.
Now Sunderland do the double again.
Must be hard to take.
It's obvious what he is. Just a bitter wum taking out his life frustrations on this place. And seems to be on the drink every day by his own admission
It was a brilliant win for us.
Still buzzing.
Might go out on the screaming piss again to celebrate the win again.
So you go away you silly boy.
State of this

No hasn’t responded as yet
I think I asked Jeff a similar question when I was on twitter but he wouldn’t rise to the bait
Carol and dawn wear the trousers at bbc Newcastle
100%. I collared him once, asked some pertinent questions and it was clear from his responses that he wasn't willing to rock the boat much less take on Kipper Keks.

Now you have your complaint reference and response we can raise it with Ofcom. Link above.
I'll be doing that tonight.

Hope everyone else does too and mentions that it's public knowledge that the same generic email has been sent to all complainants.

I received a very similar response this afternoon.

The thrust of my compliant was not Luke Edward’s but the editorial presentation of the match, the failure to refer to the fact that the match had to be stopped or the Premier League’s response statement.

I’m going to follow up. (You have to submit another compliant using the original web form but quoting your reference number).

They’ve broadly ignored the specific points I’d raised.
