Look North/Tyne Tees Coverage ***Europa League Special***

I haven't criticised Look North before.
I will now.
I taped (oops, recorded ... get with the modern world ) Monday evenings Look North and Tyne Tees news programmes. Look North's derby day coverage was shocking. A less than 10 second mention of the stoppage in play from a racist comment. No sound bites from both sets of fans, as they left the stadium after the game. Look North opening their match action with a comment inferring Newcastle would have been under par after Wednesday's game in Barcelona. The noticeby subdued studio guest, Luke Edwards, tip-toed around Newcastle's capitulation. Dawn, downcast and embarrassed as she quickly swept the racism talking point under the carpet, finished her piece by heralding the three week break, insinuating it would benefit Newcastle. Meanwhile, on Tyne Tees, the strident Simon O'Rourke telling it as it was ... the first team in NE derby history to go 11 unbeaten ... etc ..
Spent more time on Gateshead and York than Sundays game
You may well be right there ... although after Monday evening's fracas I didn't bother tuning in.

First of all , tuning into BBC for news content was a mistake.

Bit irrelevant that really.
There's threads on this forum about most matches - especially on days that Sunderland aren't playing.
Does that mean that Sunderland fans see all these matches as important to them?

My point was that BBC North East/Cumbria covers quite an extensive area (not just Tyneside/Wearside ), so other news stories sometimes (quite rightly) take precedence.

There are a lot of people in 'our' BBC region that have no interest in a match between you two, do they have no right to local news just because you two are playing each other?

Yes I quite often comment on threads on here.
There's a thread about Boro on this forum - does that mean that everyone who comments on that then 'cares' about the non-entity that is Boro?
Cos most people on here deny any 'feelings' towards us.

Even today - people moaning because they've received the same email in response to their complaint - do they really expect somebody at the BBC to sit down and write individual letters to everybody?
Tbf you don’t understand the rivalry between the two cities -I get that
Ànd you seem like you want to be involved -I also get that -you have no “rivals”-maybe next season ?
oh the irony of a boro fan talking about fake rivalry 🤣🤣
Yet they had pubs in Teeside full of Safc at the weekend-according to their forum .

BBC just replied to my complaint

Thank you for getting in touch about BBC Look North (North East & Cumbria).

You're absolutely right to pick up on the phrasing used in the Team Talk section of the programme on 23 March.

We are very sorry.

Luke Edwards says he is mortified. He has posted about the incident on social media to try to put things right and apologise. He says: 'I would like to apologise for this. It certainly wasn't my intention to make light of racism. I've found it abhorrent my entire life. It was a clumsy link in a very short segment talking about the game yesterday. I'm very remorseful but it was a mistake. I can only apologise.'

The incident that interrupted the match, and the arrest of fans before the start of the game, were covered in the late evening BBC Look North (NE&C) bulletin broadcast on 22 March and on the Breakfast bulletins on 23 March. The incident was also reported on the main BBC One news evening bulletins on 22 March.

We are very grateful to you for getting in touch and apologise once again for any offence the phrasing may have caused. Senior editors at BBC Look North ((North East & Cumbria) have seen your complaint.”
So no apology from Dawnie tonight 😀
Aye he's posted an apology, because he's been caught out what his views on racism are, nonplussed.

The whinging still going on here by a few of the regular suspects from the matchday threads.
It never fails to amaze me that some folks will whinge about refs, yellow and red cards, offsides, twist on 21 and now feckin T.V. reports.
And have a massive chip on their shoulders over Sweet FA
The mind boggles.

Feck me, just get on with your lives.
And you keep replying to it ffs just get on with your life

This is actually funny now. It’s so biased you have to laugh.

Mental health in Cumbria.
EasyJet plane lands in ponteland.
Old man sells sleeping pills.
Dead moles don’t look nice.
There’s immigrants about.

Wonder what’s next of regional importance?
They genuinely are scuralous c***s
Erm erm some racism from the crowd. She couldn't bring herself to say it. She's meant to be a f***ing journalist ffs.
Thank f**k I'm not contributing to her wages

It’s not whingeing
The bbc is a public service broadcaster and not representing the whole region
It’s not a service just to manage the news for nufc

All about the viewers perception of a broadcast marra.
Surely people's perception is how you interpret information, then your opinion is what judgment(s) you make regarding that information.??

The BBC broadcasted a report on Sunday night 22nd March and on the Breakfast bulletins on 23rd March. The match was also reported on the main BBC One news evening bulletins on 22 March.
In my opinion, that was fair enough. Move on to other things.

People who were moaning about Monday teatime's coverage are wanting what?? The match was finished, over and done with over 24 hours earlier, the reports already done and dusted.

They will be moaning that the opening pictures of Look North don't have enough Sunderland based pictures next, or Sunderland pinpointed on the weather report. ;)
