BBC just replied to my complaint
“
Thank you for getting in touch about BBC Look North (North East & Cumbria).
You're absolutely right to pick up on the phrasing used in the Team Talk section of the programme on 23 March.
We are very sorry.
Luke Edwards says he is mortified. He has posted about the incident on social media to try to put things right and apologise. He says: 'I would like to apologise for this. It certainly wasn't my intention to make light of racism. I've found it abhorrent my entire life. It was a clumsy link in a very short segment talking about the game yesterday. I'm very remorseful but it was a mistake. I can only apologise.'
The incident that interrupted the match, and the arrest of fans before the start of the game, were covered in the late evening BBC Look North (NE&C) bulletin broadcast on 22 March and on the Breakfast bulletins on 23 March. The incident was also reported on the main BBC One news evening bulletins on 22 March.
We are very grateful to you for getting in touch and apologise once again for any offence the phrasing may have caused. Senior editors at BBC Look North ((North East & Cumbria) have seen your complaint.”
So no apology from Dawnie tonight
