London

Maybe? There is still a bit of snobbery about not living in Penge (London). "oh we live in Kent" [Beckenham residents].

Though some Beckenham residents like to be thought of as Londoners when they aren't really, just greater London. Their post is all sent to BR3 which is a Kent postcode not a London one.
You sound really interesting.

That’s more about simply not having to live in Penge rather than London v Kent.

Bromley and lots of other London boroughs took their current form in 1965 after the LGA 1963 like @phil said. From that point on the county boundaries changed and Kent, in this case, lost all control over the former towns that went into the LB of Bromley.

I don’t doubt people who lived in all the former towns of those counties prior to or just after 1965 still refer to those rather than London (e.g. Romford - Essex, Uxbridge - Middlesex etc) but they’ve not been in those counties since 1965, Middlesex doesn’t even exist as a ceremonial county anymore.

Think of it this way, would you say Vauxhall is in Surrey just because it was prior to 1889?
