I didn’t directly compare the two, people question the efficacy of the vaccine yet it’s more so than any flu jab, which we judge enough to protect society without any restriction at all. I don’t see why people like yourself make statements like that, implying someone’s opinion is invalid and bonehead like just because they mention flu and Covid in the same sentence. Are we really still on with comparing COVID to the flu?
With respect I get the impression you revel in it.

There are millions of people out there all with different personal situations. To lump them all in together shows you have no empathy or understanding of a lot of family situations. Its simply not a question of black or white, its way more complex than that. Thousands if not millions sre struggling to get through day to day, never mind week to week or month to month. If these people tske all necessary precautions for a bit outside socialising to get them through a day or week than thats fair enough imo
In layman’s terms it’s the best way to put it into context. Not at all
I just don't spend my life angry at the Government for not telling me what I want to hear.
Because they aren't comparable.
Like what?
Childcare and people living alone have special dispensation.
Please give me another example.

Covid. What should we compare it too? Manchester United and jam sandwiches?

It is but there’s never been any restriction on people’s liberty for the flu in this country, certainly not for decades.

They are 2 of the 3 pathogens we know most about. Is this not a comparison, even if you don't directly state it? You're talking about the relative efficacy of flu vaccinations against COVID vaccinations, then saying that we don't have flu lockdowns, with the implication being that we do have COVID lockdowns.
We've had nearly 100,000 COVID deaths since March, despite restrictions in place. We've had about 60,000 flu deaths in the last five years.
You don’t want restrictions lifting till we’ve all had it.Why does it need to be compared to anything?
It's a novel virus that we didn't understand 12 months ago.
All we now know is that it kills an incredible amount of over 70s if left to spread. We know a little about how to treat it and part of what vaccinating against it does.
Still got a long way to go.

Lockdowns cause death and Chaos too, around 560,000 according to an impact assessment conducted by a professor in Bristol.I'd love restrictions lifted now - but as that would cause death and chaos I'm prepared to dig in and wait.
Outdoor household mixing with social distancing should be available from April when 100% of over 70s have received both jabs.
Back to normal (excluding international travel) from the autumn when 100% of over 18s have had one dose and 80% have had two doses.
That's realistic and looks pretty safe to me.
I haven't like.
I've been pretty much bang on.
I didn't think kids would back to school in September - I was wrong. But hey, then it all got closed down again.
There are no personal situations in reality that outweigh the greater good - ie keeping as many people safe as possible.
Support bubbles for single people should have been the biggest concession we made - and loads took the mick.
There are people out there who lives have been turned upside down, trying to some school, work themselves, pay the bills, put food on the table. These people may not have childcare at hand. You are coming over as a bit of arsehole who has zero understanding of anybody's situation but your own
How many is "loads"? Hundreds, thousands?
Sorry, when I said childcare I meant the ability for a child to be move between the homes of divorced parents.
Everybody's life has been turned upside down.
Everybody still has the same bills to pay that they did 12 months ago.
Children of key workers can still go to school and have been able to throughout this.
I appreciate it's harder for everybody (including myself) than it was 12 months ago.
But scrapping restrictions earlier doesn't just clear the above problems it creates a whole load more.
No idea.

It is shit for a lot of people, but is suffering from covid, getting long covid, getting hopitalised because of covid or dying, not worse? There is also the aspect of spreading it to other people where the above applies. There are people out there who lives have been turned upside down, trying to some school, work themselves, pay the bills, put food on the table. Where did you draw the conclusion that enough people took the mick for it to be a problem then?
What do you think they'll do with all those coming off furlough in march? They either extend it, through them on the scrap heap, or lift some restrictions. It's going to be a mixture of all 3 surelyWhy does it need to be compared to anything?

The problem with saying "I'm struggling to deal with this shit, open it all up" is that when it runs through society and lots of people get ill, as well as those who die, places shutdown again pretty quickly because people are ill. We had evidence of this happening in October when public transport was being cancelled, some supermarket deliveries were suffering etc.
