Lifting Covid restrictions by March 'a disaster', says Sage scientis

It's getting a bit daft now though isn't it. A full year. If you've followed the rules tightly for a year, or even the last 3 or 4 months, you are anything but selfish, but as I said in my original point, a lot of this anxiety and moral dilemma could be calmed by the fuckers in charge just giving us something to aim for. A timescale or a number of cases or what the new tiers will be. And I don't mean say it now, I mean in a few weeks, just a bit of communication. Without it , people are going to snap

I agree entirely that a target to look forward to would ease minds, but they're also setting themselves up for a big fall if something goes wrong.

I'm sure public engagement with and adherence to the rules will snap at some point, hopefully after the vast majority of vulnerable people have been vaccinated.

If you live alone, are you not eligible to be in a support bubble with your mother's household?

Because I live with my lass, and her daughter, and her mam has been part of our bubble the whole time. Plus I work on busy construction sites all week long with little to no covid protection, and my lass is a secondary school teacher, and bubble or no bubble I don't feel comfortable going to her house

Phew. You looked like you were on the ropes for a moment there.

I see - sorry I thought you meant you were living alone and hadn't seen anyone for that reason.

I don't blame you for taking that course of action. I live alone and so does my mother, and when cases began to climb rapidly again, I felt uncomfortable visiting and won't be going back until she's had her vaccine, even though she's in my bubble.

The weather will be better, it's likely we'll be able to open outdoor attractions - Maybe 25% of the population will have had the vaccinations too.

I can't get my head round the fact that hospitalisations and deaths don't seem to come into the reckoning for you.

That's why in mind I hope they are spending these 4 weeks in January, where they have a bit of breathing space, actaully making decisions, planning and governing correctly. I don't want them to say owt now as it will be rushed. But I don't want silence going into march. I want something properly planned and communicated in February to the whole county. Otherwise it's going to go tits up

She's in a bubble with my sister and her kids .

So basically then she's being looked after and isn't 'lonley'.

Nothing wrong with wanting to see your Mam.

However, until the restrictions are lifted, you're selfish if you do.

Your mam could give it to you, you pass it on to your construction colleagues or Mrs who spreads it round school.

I can't get my head around the fact you don't think they'll go straight back up again if we lift restrictions earlier than when most adults have been vaccinated.

It's a very tricky path for them to walk. Hopefully by the time they're meeting to make these decisions we're in a situation where everyone over 70 has been vaccinated, which will make their jobs a lot easier.

Entirely possible. Just like any interaction with anyone has a likelihood of spreading it. I'll risk assess the situation and if that makes me selfish, by that point, I'll have to live with it on my conscience. To reiterate, I've been 100% bang on the rules, especially since xmas day, worked and hid away from the world the rest of the time. That's important for context when labelling other people.

Like I said, until every single person in the UK is vaccinated, any socialising is 'selfish' by your definition

Do you know what the % of hospitalisations is for under 70s, out of curiosity?

Same here - I've been bang on since last March.

And that's not what I'm saying at all.

I'm saying you shouldn't mingle until you're told it's safe to.
