Leicester forum - Championship thread

Must have started supporting then since 2016 then. They’re also not the biggest fish in this pond, not by a long way, just one of the richest.

They are like, you can't keep judging football on the rules of yesteryear, everything evolves whether you like it or not.

As 2023 stands Leicester are still the biggest and most glamorous club in the Championship, in a few years time that may not be the case.

I wouldn’t even say top 5. Blackburn, Leeds, WBA, Sheff Wed and us are all bigger teams. They are in the next tranche with Southampton, Birmingham, Watford, Ipswich, Norwich, Coventry, Cardiff, Boro, QPR and maybe one or 2 others.
Not that any of that matters in terms of promotion mind as Luton showed.

By what metric are Blackburn bigger than Leicester?

This is the point i was going to make, people act like we've a god given right to be back in the prem and we're a 'far bigger club' than x, y, z. This lot were winning the premiership at around same time we were embarking on the worst years in our entire history

Funny how it works out. Now they’re on the way down and we’re on the way up

I would say second, behind Leeds United. Both are in one club cities, cities which continue to grow.

They really aren’t

Three times as many League titles including one in the modern era.
Six times as many FA Cup wins.
Similar if not bigger historical fan base.
Higher average league position.

Just had a look and two of their title wins were before WW1, if you have to go back over a century to score points then it doesn't count.

Five of their six FA Cup wins were in the 1800's, see above.

I've managed to live about 40 miles away from Leicester most of my adult life. Whether that be Nottingham, Leamington or working in Stamford and let me assure you that Leicester is a much bigger club than Blackburn. It's the second biggest one team city in England after Leeds.

Leicester has an urban area population of over 500,000 and a one team county of one million. Blackburn is an an average sized town of 120,000 with lots of teams around them and not much of a catchment area. In my experience Leicester is easily the second biggest fanbase in the Midlands after Villa, even living 40 mile from Leicester in Leamington now I see more Leicester shirts than Villa, Man Utd or Liverpool.

In the all time league table Blackburn are 12th. I was quite surprised to see Leicester at 18th mind above Leeds but below the other 4 teams I mentioned and Boro.

I also lived in Leicestershire for a while. Yes Leicester is a big city but it’s also a big rugby city with Tigers getting over 20000 attendances.

It eventually becomes a bit of an opinion and it’s also moot as far as the coming season is concerned. To finish above Leicester we will have to have an outstanding season or they will have to have a poor season - there are 4 teams in the league that finished above us and below Leicester.

I personally think Southampton are the most likely team to go up. Leicester could be anything, win it with 100+ pts or mid table. They have an amazing squad at this level but they've already lost Soyuncu and Tilemans on a free and Maddison and Barnes will probably leave as well. New manager and it will be all about how he does and who they buy.

I expect us to be reasonably comfortable play off positions.

IF - we get another 3-4 excellent signings including the loans, they mostly integrate into the team well, the injured lads come back at the same level and we avoid the same injury situation we can win the league or at least top 2. It’s a lot of ifs though.

"Sunderland a squad full of over the hill journeymen, if they have 1 or 2 technically brilliant players we can simply cherry pick them".

"Some big city clubs down there but they're all largely in the doldrums, take Sunderland and Middlesbrough both lucky if they average 18K these days, Coventry can't give tickets away".
I can’t believe someone has actually written that !!
