Legends Way fan vote: choose the 14 legends

Off the field, Bennett clocked up multiple arrests and convictions for drink driving, assault etc during his time at SAFC. This included hitting a police woman in the face and kicking her in the shin for which he received a three-month suspended prison sentence.
This is news to me and I can find no evidence online.
How on earth can 14 be chosen from more than 140 years of history?
I keep looking and thinking oh yes have to include him/her.
Nobody in their right mind is choosing any "her" out of SAFC's near 150 year history.

Not enough is made of David Halliday's record

Same with Jimmy Thorpe and the tragic circumstance of his death

I also think Defoe as many have touched on for Bradley Lowery

Finally where is Nosworthy and Munez?

How so? Jill Scott never played for Sunderland first team, how is she even considered a club legend?
You compared it to building a statue.

If she ends up being one of the 14 names picked it’s hardly laughable like you said.

Thanks mate, hope you don't think I was having a go at you with my comment, I haven't seen who your picks were, I didn't know if you had picked my dad or not. When you said 1978 it just caught my eye, as that was during my dads time, I'm just so proud of my dad and don't want people to forget him
We still sing about your dad at matches to this day mate! Everyone knows him, from young 5 years olds at the match with their dad right through. He’ll never be forgotten

Hurley, Rowell and super kev are my 3 certs
...then it's picking the others from there.

I'd actually go for Michael Gray but don't think he'll be a popular choice because of the way it ended. He played so many games for us, local lad. Played for England, very talented.

Charles Buchan, Dave Halliday, Raich Carter, Len Shackleton, Charlie Hurley and Monty; six definite picks in my book.
After those six legends it's any eight from a cast of hundreds.

Of course it is, she never played for us.

Being from Sunderland doesn’t make her an SAFC legend.

If someone who never played for us is a legend, someone like Henderson who did actually play a material number of games for us and achieved pretty much everything in the game would be deserving of a statue if she is classed as a legend.

If she made it i think it would deffo be a box ticking exercise

Just posted this in the Legend's Way thread but maybe deserves its own:

They are asking us to vote on the 14 legends to be represented along the line:

Opportunity to recognise older legends from our real golden eras before our lifetimes IMO.

Shortlist (though there is an opportunity to nominate others once you have submitted):

@mods please merge the two threads on this
Is this legit or a way of getting folks names and e mails?..Cannot see any link on club website?

Jill Scott & Steph Houghton i added to my 14

legends of Roker and the SOL where tens of thousands poured into the stadium to roar them to success.

Great women, trailblazers in their own right but please, it would be embarrassing for them to be in the same company as the 14.

There is no male player in that list who played since SKP yet several women players from since that period are nominated…how on earth can they be called legends in the history of this club

Celebrate the women’s game by all means but to nominate and vote for them in this context is diversity gone mad.
Can't believe Armstrong is on the list. Not a popular player in his day.

He was with me, and he also is one of the highest appearance and goalscorers … not that I voted for him

I didn’t fill in my details
Surely no Marco Gabbiadini (Hallowed Be Thy Name) is a massive oversight?!!

He is The One.

4 seasons wasn’t it? Pivotal in everyone. I wouldn’t have voted but agree he should have been on list. However you can’t compare him to say Gary Bennett who ticked absolutely every conceivable box.

Aye. I seriously doubt those inclined to vote will be prepared to do the necessary homework.
All the lads who won the league or cup should be in automatically. ONLY THEN should the relative failures no matter how popular be up for vote.
Which of the none league or Cup winners on that list are you saying are relative failures? Why do you consider them failures?

I suggested Cloughy as the additional one. Nearly a goal a game for us.

That really is an omission. I’ve got a feeling they have had to play x number of games to get on the list
Luke O’Nien should be on there. I know he’s still playing for us but think I will contact the Club. Some names I am surprised at e.g. ‘73 team. Denis Tuery for example fucked off to Man City not long after. Not a legend for me. Nor is Micky Horswill.

I voted for Tueart he was at club for many years and alongside Watson was our best player for several years, scoring some worldies, winning the FACup and playing for England.
He’s also my fav all time player 😜
Nee Lucy Bronze or Beth Mead

…. Or the peanut seller. Seriously he was more legendary!

He’ll on earth you have triggered my PDST
Sorensen is a mad inclusion

Best goalie in my lifetime, in best team in my lifetime…. Probably didn’t play long enough to be a legend… 5 seasons wasn’t it? Should be long enough
