Forecast gusts right on limits for 737-800 but add in wet runway and the fact that Leeds airport is on top of a hill with a strong easterly wind. Can’t say I’m shocked tbh.

I live on the end of the runway and its been chaos all day up to that incident.
Aborted landings, sideways approaches, and diverts.

Even the Ryanair flights that normally get the plane down no matter what were giving it a wide birth.

They have this stuff at the end of the runway which slows the plane down and works like the escape lane that lorries would use. Hopefully that was in place. Of all the plane accidents stopping ten yards late is about the best you can hope for.

On some quick amateur sleuthing via flight radar, landing speed looks typical. My guess is they aqua planed.
Does anyone know if the spoilers automatically retract at a certain speed?
