Don't most decent midfields have the more basic player. He played it well when Bruno, Joe and Longstaff pretty much got us into the CL.

And most did a decent job for us in the top tier for a decent period of time. Leeds would take that.

My point being more than a fair few regard experience as a necessity for the Premier League which I personally think is a load of bollocks
 
At 10m I think he’s a decent enough signing for any newly promoted team, brings some experience and not at a huge cost really.

Will be interesting to see how he does surrounded by poorer players

Experience of performing at the level and demonstrating a capacity to cope there is pretty important. Not many sides do well there without it.
 
Whichever way you look at it, £10m for 27 year old with most of his games played in the top flight can’t be a bad deal.

The three that come up, but I’d say the three that come up have the least quality. That’s where the difference is. Not experience.

Likes of Brighton (constantly mid table since promotion) & Brentford (same) didn’t litter their squad with premier league experience at all. They recruited well from overseas. That’s the model that we are seemingly following like it or not.

Sort of signing you’d expect a Leicester or Birmingham to make in the championship

While I hope the above is correct can we be at least aware we’re buying young lads who’ve never kicked a ball in the UK… versus a lad who’s been pretty regular for a top half premier side over a good few years.

You’d have to be very wary of a squad completely made up of foreign players without any prem experience in there, a mixture of both would be a different story.

Last season minutes wise he played the equivalent of 9 games out 38 in the Premier League.

I agree apart from the regular bit. He played a lot when Tonali was banned. He played when the mags had injuries. He's never been a first choice.

We've bought young, current internationals with potentially very high ceilings, time will tell of course. Leeds have bought a plodder. Plodders won't keep you up. If they buy several better he might fill in and they might have a chance.

I'd rather aim higher.
