Leeds agree £10m for Longstaff

Black and White thinking is a genuine, established, damaging thought pattern in cognitive psychology. You are exhibiting it here.

Nobody is saying all ours are mint. We have no idea, but the unpredictability is exciting. Longstaff we think mediocre and there’s plenty of evidence.

Forgive me if I’m wrong but I think I saw you mention us signing Oviedo and watching that type of experience take us down.

I also saw us sign N’Dong, Djilibodgi, Denayer et al that season. There was an aspect of exciting unpredictability with some of those recruits and they were dreadfully unfit for purpose. Cabral, Moberg Karlsson, Diakite, Celutska, Roberge et al prior to them.

It’s easy to be selective.

I’m talking about the Championship. Im not saying Oviedo relegated us. I’m saying experienced Premier League players can be overrated and actually playing above their level.

Cattermole, had a hell of a lot more games than Longstaff, but he struggled there too.

There were countless examples - almost our entire team.

Besides which, Djilbodji and Denayer both came from PL clubs. Denayer had played a season for Celtic and one for Galatasaray. He was a lot less high risk than the lads we are signing!!

10m quid for an experienced prem midfielder and only 27, I'd say that's a pretty good deal for Leeds like

That’s a good signing. 200 league appearances for a very good top half side over the last 7 years and still only 27.

I know you’re not meant to say it about Mags, but he also seems a fairly decent and down to earth character. Not your typical Mag gobshite. And he likes cricket.
Like I said, I've only seen thee odd match he's played in, my colleague at work can't wait to see the back of him.

The younger Longstaff showed promise and went no further. He played maybe a dozen times, did his ACL and was let go. Aside from being brothers, there’s no real logical link to make there

It's was a tongue in cheek comment mate.

Newcastle are way short on players and are happy to let this lad go. He's very average and if Leeds make more signings in CM like they've been linked to, he may struggle to even get in their side most weeks.

They'll be no sleep lost over this one.

The fact he hasn't proven himself to have a ceiling as low as Longstaff yet. Maybe he will soon, maybe not.

I’d put a lot of money on Neil not playing and scoring for his hometown club in the Champions League against world class opposition.

How high do we think each of their ceilings are here??

They’ll not lose sleep no. They’ve arguably two elite level midfielders and a very good one and deep pockets to replace Longstaff.

But for a newly promoted side at about £10m, that looks like a very solid signing for Leeds. Everyone knows he isn’t a world beater but there can be a bit of objectivity despite his Mag roots

Short memories some. The buying of Tonali and emergence of Miley probably enough to dispense.
He reckons all he does is sit back, break up play and then play simple billy basic passes as that's all he has and if that's what Leeds are after, he's their man.

He’s basically a runner. Nothing flash at all on the ball, in fact the opposite. Suppose it’s about what you get for £10m. Squad player for a bottom half side.

To be fair the odd game I've seen him play he does have a habit of popping up on the right places on the edge of the box but then ends up ballooning the ball over the bar.
Which is what you need to get a bang average position in the PL. We'd take that!
Surrounded by far better players than the likes of Longstaff.

I notice the West Ham's, Palace's, Everton's etc. don't seem to be interested.

The 3 you mentioned weren't linked with the lads we've signed 🤷

I said he's average mate. A few weeks back I said that about Doyle at Wolves and he was only touted at 3m. I don't think there's much difference in both those players. I'm not saying it because he's a mag.

My post a few pages back asked if it makes the Leeds side significantly better and I honestly think it doesn't. He's run of mill PL player for me. I don't think he adds much to what Leeds have already.

One of those players who I think will suffer from playing around worse players.

Not particularly bothered by this one. Some decent experience for Leeds, possibly good value at £10m but wouldn’t think he’d make much of a difference.

Pretty hard to do if your hometown club doesn't play in the Champions League.

And it’s pretty hard to get into a champions league level side 200 times or thereabouts.

I’d make the bet fairer by putting money on Neil never scoring in the champions league for any side.

I’d never have even brought Neil into the discussion here had he not been mentioned as I don’t think that’s fair but I really don’t get where the higher ceiling thing comes from.
