Latest boxing crack


Johnny Nelson has been by far the biggest star of the build up, what a tosspot, but it's been funny to watch.

Usyk wants to knock him out for calling him a bang average Southpaw who he'd beat if there were around at the same time
Eddie Hearn and AJ coming out slinging verbals for suggesting AJ should retire if he loses
Chisora dragged him to 1 side during the media workout for an argument over something he said

Now even 1 of his own Adam Smith has come out and said he's chatting shit, so Nelson makes a video about wanting to fight Smith.

We're not even halfway there yet after he suggested Shields is better than Marshall, Taylor and Serrano. The entire Boxing world going after him for chatting utter shite.

It's safe to say he's not getting another gig after this week.

Always liked Nelson tbf, however can’t help but think his recent craic has been a bit racially motivated mind.
 
Think Johnny Nelson has gone down the Froch route of saying one or two stupid things that he's been called out on and thinking 'fuck it' and playing up to a character now.

I've never really liked AJ, never took to his personality and whilst I respected what he's achieved and his impact, I always thought he got plaudits for his resume when he actually had the deck stacked in his favour a lot of the time.

But the closer it gets, the more I've convinced myself he can beat Usyk. Its unlikely but not beyond the realms of possibility. He needs to make it at physical and dirty as possible, pressure the body then box in bursts rather than 'let his hands go and go for it' like has been suggested. He isn't going to outbox him and will gas if he goes too gung go but if he can use his size advantage and jab to disrupt him he can neutralise his attack and a attack when the opportunity presents to nick rounds.

As has been suggested, he is massively influenced by public perception but also doesn't seem to address the criticisms of him. I.e. 'I wanted to prove I could box for 12 rounds to shut everyone up but wish I'd just knocked him out now' after Parker and the alarming 'My eye closed up and I thought 'cool, let's prove to everyone I can box with one eye' after Usyk. But people have criticised his lack of head movement for years and he's done fuck all about it.

I think Fury's comeback - rather than losing to Ruiz - was the catalyst for his decline. His ascent coincided with Fury's breakdown and he had everything his own way, he controlled the division and was the face of British boxing with all the endorsements and adulation. Then the fat gypsy who the public hated pre-breakdown returned, made the Wilder fight in 2 minutes when he couldn't, won the hearts of the people after getting off the canvas in the 12th round and AJ became yesterday's man. Think Joshua needs to be loved and is too desperate to prove to the doubters rather than fight his own game. Suspect some of that was down to McCracken and the team telling him what he wanted to hear - they worked for him and 'brand AJ' rather than AJ answering to him.

IF he's worked on his mental problems - like Robert Garcia has alluded to - and IF Fernandez has worked in a gameplan where McCracken didn't it won't be as much of a foregone conclusion as has been suggested.

Good post, agree with plenty of what you say.

Only thing is on Nelson, he's been the company contrarian for Sky for a good while. I remember the Haye - Audley fight where the closer it got, the more he was going on like Audley stood a chance :lol:. Speaking of, no pundit currently speaks more shit than David Haye.

Haye is an easy #2
I'll give the #3 spot to Adam Smith, he's a Jim Watt from wish.com who knows fuck all about Boxing.

Interesting quotes from AJ, a few weeks ago it was I'm coming out swinging and I'll knock him out crack, to now it's going to be a 12 round war...Make ya mind up fella :lol:

Personally I think usyk has his number and even if AJ changed his tactics he'll revert back to what he is, A big athlete with average boxing ability...

Don’t buy into the fact he has average boxing ability like, fair enough he’s hardly Usyk or fury but he’s far from average imo. Hope he knocks Usyk out me.

I’m conflicted. I’d love to see fury v Joshua so a win for aj works. He is a Brit and do try to back the lads ( struggled with bellew like)

However I’m convinced if AJ even thinks of being aggressive this ends early for usyk so sticking some cash on. Big left hook counter then a barrage on the ropes.

I’ll be delighted for the people on Twitter/Facebook who have their tounges so far up fury’s hoop they’d rather a fella from Ukraine (a very likeable one like) beats one of our own. 99.9% of the time I back our fighters and I’m the same with fury but I’d never want one to get beat just because he rivals another Brit. You’ll not find a soul in Ukraine wanting Usyk to get beat. Haway AJ!

I've seen lots of boxers with good athleticism and not so good boxing ability especially at heavyweight get right up the ladder. Having a good manger, promoter and TV company behind you makes the difference IMO..
