We are SAFC but the cynic in me is curious why he's leaving a job for a club in a lower division...

Maybe it's a huge boost to his esteem when a club like Sunderland make an approach. If it's the "new people" who have done so then perhaps they're extremely professional and have sold him the vision for safc + explained what a complete shitshow it is currently. I.E tonnes of room for improvement at every level of a club desparate to change its direction, desparate for people like him to come and help.

The latter position would presumably be in charge of recruitment and scouting with the former in charge of coaching across the club, including the academy. Would make sense for Speakman to be head of football.
