A wonderful talent who would be in my England XI from those I've seen (1978-now). OK so he's a tit but so are a few others who would make that XI (Boycott, Swann and dare I say our chairman on many an occasion). I prefer to think of his on-field England performances. The opposition feared him.

Hobbs, Hammond, Compton, Hutton, May, Dexter, Cowdrey, Barrington, Graveney, Boycott, Gower......
After that S. African inns didn't KP comment " It's difficult being Kevin Pietersen in this team"- a not so subtle criticism of his team mates.
We beg to differ Mr J-which is what forums are all about.
Difficult to gauge a lot of them as not great coverage around, not their fault of course and you’d certainly need to make a case for likes of Hutton, Hobbs, Barrington and Hammond but I think KP compares favourably with the rest.
Yeah nothing wrong with a debate mate. That’s what it’s all about.

He could bat. The thing is I see his behaviour and I think that I do not want him in my team. Not a good influence.

I never understand why people get so pre occupied with the players personality. I don’t really care what they do when the games finished I’m only interested in what they do on the field. I think Swann is a cock but what a fantastic player he was for us.

Away from the game I agree so long as it's within the law but in the dressing room it can mar team performance. Which is why I reconsider selecting Boycott as a great.

We had great success with KP in team so it certainly didn’t seem to effect the teams performance. He’s obviously arrogant, cocky and clearly wasn’t part of the dressing room ‘clique’ but he performed and to me that’s all that matters. Not as if he was humping another players wife or kicking fuck out of people. In life you won’t always get on with people you work with. Believe it or not there might even be some people who dislike me, unbelievable I know ;)

He certainly wouldn't get into my all time England XI. Can't recall any match winning or match saving inns against top attacks or on difficult wickets. Nor do I think you can be termed a great if you can't be a team man.
Chunky-lover summed him up perfectly in 6 words.
Top run scorer in debut series, 2005 ashes, saving the game on the last day when Warne and McGrath were on the verge of skittling us to have a chase to level the series

Seriously Parky?!

Oval 2005
Adelaide 2010
Colombo 2012
Mumbai 2012

Say what you want about the bloke as a bloke, but his batting was top drawer.

Tin hat on -dropped by Warns when next to nowt then slogged irresponsibly.

Fuck me, I've fallen for your wind up haven't I

Legend of the English game. Discarded way too early, replaced by hopeless knackers.

He might not have been much of a team player but neither was Boycott and many others. However, centuries win games and he was the go to man many times when the pressure was on.

Kallis was often criticised for his selfish batting but I bet South Africa wish they still had him. Botham played loads of reckless shots that weren’t exactly playing the situation but you accept the bad with players like him and KP as there’s a helluva lot of good as well.
He wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea which goes without saying but anybody trying to dispute that he was anything other than world class are letting their dislike cloud their judgement.
I honestly have no idea why any spectator would be in the slightest bit bothered that he didn’t get on with broad, Swann etc providing he was doing the business, not as if they’re in dressing room with him. The disruptive influence doesn’t wash either given the success we had with him in team.

Brilliant player. England haven’t been able to come close to replacing him; which isn’t at all surprising given how good he is/was. A once in a generation player. I’m a huge fan of Cook but KP is the batsman of that generation. It’s not only about the weight of runs, but how he got them.

Shame on Strauss and his clique for the treatment he got. England (and England fans) have suffered on the back of it.

We replaced him

We haven't replaced Trott.

No shame on Pietersen for the way he treated Strauss and the rest of team. Good riddance.

By the way, get your facts right, Strauss did not sack KP

He was already fired and then went on to right the back, nobody in their right mind could have called him up

Whatever anyone thinks of him as a bloke I’m surprised this hasn’t been acknowledged on here. A phenomenal talent who would get in most people’s all time England XIs in all formats.
His innings against South Africa at headingley is arguably the best I’ve seen from on England player, Gooch at the same venue against windies is probably only one I can think of that may trump it.
Without doubt an England legend.
meh
