KP Retires

They’d slagged him off as well, KP was big enough to still share a dressing room with them. People need to get over themselves.
Gary Ballance was never going to be good enough with that technique which I told you at the time but you thought he was a better bet than KP.
Let’s just say KP was a total and utter wanker yeah. Why does that bother you? You don’t have to share a dressing room with him or socialise you are a spectator who only sees him when he’s performing for our country which he did quite superbly over the years. I think Swann is a cockend but I’d have him in my team all day every day and twice on a Sunday.

I am not getting into this again, you really really need to move on mate.

He was rightly sacked, and certainly could never be picked again after that book

Whether he is a better player than Gary Ballance or not is totally irrelevant

You keep talking like I am on my own here, he is really disliked in England, he isn't a popular man. There is a reason for that

I’m asking you why it would bother you if he played? You aren’t part of the dressing room you’re a fan providing he’s scoring runs why on earth would he bother you? I know you aren’t only one but you’re the one I’m having a conversation with.
There’s nothing to move on over, he’s retired now and he can look back on a superb career in which he enjoyed amazing success. I can continue to remember his performances and still watch them as I do with a lot of the greats of the game.
He probably was and is an arrogant cocky self centred fucker but I have little interest in that I’m only interested in the player. People follow these lads like the f***ing kardashians now

World class talent and world class bellend. I could watch him bat all day, but I couldn't stand to be in the same room as him for 10 seconds.

You need to watch that innings again, he could have been caught hooking 4 or 5 times. I was furious at the time when I was watching it.
Watched it countless times and it was a magnificent knock. Tell ya what we’ll not acknowledge Lara’s 501 as he got dropped on fuck all ey? The passage of play with Brett Lee trying to take his head off was great theatre.

Not in his top ten for England IMO, he got away with some horribly reckless shots.

Technically maybe not but in terms of importance it probably beats the lot. Bothams knock at headingley was full of reckless shots, his one at old Trafford in same series was technically better but the headingley one had more significance.

If he goes away now, goes to do his conservation stuff in Africa (which is about the only thing he has going for him apart from the 7 years playing for England before he let his ego take over) and stays well away from a commentary box, I may look back in time and let myself enjoy his career on the field and enjoy the memories. Somehow I doubt he will go quietly and disappear into the sunset though.

I bought his book

After reading basically

Fell out with the SA cricket board
Fell out with Hampshire
Fell out with Northamptonshire
Fell out with Surrey
Fell out with the ECB

I kinda realised that maybe he was the issue.

Prick but a talent

I've read his book and have no idea why it caused so much vitriol and controversy.

Not much in there that was widely unknown.

One of the main gripes was him playing in the IPL , which is ironic how it is now actively encouraged by the FTECB.

He was a superb player, who arrived at the perfect time for our test team.

Well played KP and have a good time retired, you provided some of the best batting seen from an England player.

This.
We now allow our ODI skipper to miss international fixtures in order to play IPL. Perhaps KP had a point after all.

That's the whole point though, he played horribly given the situation and got lucky. I think we're all happy to look the other way, seeing as it was an Ashes winning knock, but let's not re-write history.

Him and Cook in Mumbai that turned the series is his finest hour IMO.

Very few innings are played without a little bit of luck, it’s not rewriting history at all, not in the slightest. It was a fantastic knock and to say he played situation horribly is one of the most idiotic things I’ve ever read on here. He took the game away from them by playing in a way very few could.
As I said let’s just ignore the Lara 501 as he was dropped on next to nowt and the Steve Waugh knock in World Cup semi final in 99. Don’t understand how you can ignore the brilliance to concentrate on the little bit of luck they had.

*Sigh* Isn't this the kind of stuff for which you get upset at @johnson?

Not at all you claimed I was rewriting history so I respond in kind. He played situation really well. He has Brett Lee and Shaun tait flying in trying to take his head off and he took them on and took game away. We know he not everyone’s cup of tea but people are being so disingenuous. He was a great world class player and one of best we’ve seen with the 3 lions on his chest.

I've never agreed with the mercenary thing, he left South Africa because of the quota system and went to the country of his mother's birth which allowed him to earn a living based on ability. There were no guarantees he would become an international as both countries are/were of a similar standard. We could say the same about our own (Jennings/Richardson).
