There was little criticism of Koeman last season. Everton fans were very happy when he left Southampton for Everton. Opinions change of managers, but it strikes me that Koeman is carrying the can for the disastrous Summer transfer window. That is the responsibility of Steve Walsh your Football Director.Thankfully.
He's had millions to spend in the summer, he knew Lukaku wanted to leave since around March and he then had 6 weeks to find some sort of replacement. His excuses were pathetic because him and the board decided to throw all their efforts in to bringing in Giroud who messed us about. How can a manager not have a list of backup strikers, and move towards them, in case of Giroud not signing?
Him and Moshiri then started saying something about once you can't get option A or B, the other options aren't worth it. He's genuinely trying to claim that there were no other options out there other than Giroud and Benteke (if the rumours are to believed that he was option B). So we ended up with an unproven Sandro, Calvert Lewin who has now scored something like 1 in 19, and an ageing Rooney who doesn't stay up front anyway. It's laughable. You start off with a list of say Giroud and Benteke, then when you can't get them, you work down the list. He spent ages on the Sigurdsson transfer which is now looking quite pointless given that we didn't sign Giroud or Benteke as Sigurdsson's strengths are creating chances for those types of striker.
People may wrongly say he only got 9 games. He had 15 games, and we only put in an acceptable performance for the majority of the game in 1 of them - Hajduk Split at home. The performances have been dire, his selections have been awful and the passion has been sapped from the supporters. At Burnley there was audible boos at the end of the game. On Sunday there was barely anyone left in the ground to muster up any, and for weeks we've gone in to almost every game accepting that we most likely won't win. That's not good enough for this club, or any club who has ambition to improve.
Koeman had to go.
You have gotten rid of a good coach, and I doubt you will find better. I guess you will be very happy if Everton appoint someone like Ancelotti, Silva or Dyche but I doubt they will risk their reputation in what is a very difficult job.
If Everton had ambitions, then why didn't they replace Lukaku? What ambitious club goes into a season without a recognised centre-forward. You spent a lot of money which raised expectations and there's no way Koeman could fulfil them with what is a weakened team.
