Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Absolute thickheads. I seen someone say it was the bridge to nowhere.

I worked on the Infinity Bridge at Stockton and our offices were twenty yards from the Southern side. A few older fellas in the office said exactly this at the time.
The bridge has since attracted investment and the north shore side is now developed with housing and offices.

The potential for the Sheepfolds far outweighs anything that has happened at Stockton.

I have noticed a few critics on social media claiming it's a waste of money and it does not serve a purpose etc...

I assume these people are completely unaware of the development on the Vaux site and the plan for Sheepfolds which this bridge will link together, aside from that it'll be a great link from the city centre to that git big sports stadium on the other side of the river.

I mean I could ask them but I doubt it's worth the bother.

the sunderland corruption page are claiming there's no funding for it so the workmen won't be paid

To be honest the funding of any of these projects has hardly crossed my mind.

Most of us know governments are corrupt but ultimately if I see something positive happening for the city then I'm not too concerned about the details of it.

How many people do you reckon will be able to walk over it at the same time ? Will there be a weight restriction imposed do you think.

I suspect its more of a case that the funding was in place, but saw an opportunity to get some of it back from the government via the leveling up funds, which wasn't successful. And len & his crew are as usual twisting the reality

Agreed, this take from levelling up website of how they decided:

Taking on board feedback from local authorities, and in line with the principles set out in the Funding Simplification Plan, the third round moves away from the competitive approach of rounds 1 and 2, and will see funding awarded to high-quality bids that were submitted in Round 2.

Problem Sunderland is going to have is how it or government prioritises funding for its specific projects as it’s already had LUF round 1 funding, Future High Street funding, as well as funding toward Nissan, and there is funding for the film studio they are pushing for, so can’t see they would get funding for every bid they make.
