I do like money.

I’m just not embarrassed about it!

I don’t mind private healthcare or education.

And I never want to see anybody suffer any kind of financial or other kind of hardship.

I’m a nice capitalist.

I’m not at all.
Unless you swear allegiances to socialism I will never believe you.

I think your definition must differ to mine somewhat.

You earn, in your own words at least £35k a year and own several properties, which you rent out.

So you either had the capital to put down deposits for at least three houses, or you inherited several properties and make rental income from an asset you acquired without any significant outlay.

You don’t want to see anyone suffer but you want to double the tax people on £15k a year earn, whilst anyone earning £30k or more would pay less?

Aye right.

I saved mate. No inheritance.

So you’re “not wealthy” but saved enough money to buy three houses 😂

All that money and those assets and you still think people who earn less in a year what you earn in a few months, need to pay more tax.

Sickening

No, I earned enough for the bank to lend me the money. They’re all mortgaged.

I think people feel invested when they contribute - even if it’s tax - and yes, I believe everybody should pay some.

I don’t believe in taxing the wealthiest because they will end up disenfranchised and fuck off somewhere they can pay less and then all of us suffer.

I can see your point about a flat rate not being right. But I don’t agree with people paying nothing. I’d rather find a middle ground.

Bloody hell. @Frijj on his soap box is something that I definitely haven't missed. Thank fuck that I don't venture into the politics forum.

Nee bother mate

How much deposit did you put down on them? 10% at least? So you’ve managed to fund several deposits for properties, whilst paying off the mortgages, have the cash to maintain them, and have convinced the banks you can do all this...but you’re not wealthy.

Your middle ground where everyone contributes something is a progressive tax system.

Which is what we have now.

Of course the wealthy should pay more. They wouldn’t be wealthy if not for the labour of everyone else in society.

Capitalism isn't illegal.

yeah should have said that i am on the variable now, the deal ran out last year, but the new deal would only allow maximum 10% over payment per year and i wanted to pay more than that this year and next year so i just went onto the standard deal.

When you 'overpay' you dont have to pay it straight onto the mortgage.

Get a 2 year deal at about 1.8%. Open up a regular saver with one of HSBC's subbie companies which you can get 5%. Then on maturity, chuck it in a 1 year bond for about same rate as mortgage, then open new reg saver. After 2nd year mortgage deal is at end, 2 savings accounts at maturity, then over pay. You'd save a canny bit doing something like this instead.

The wealthiest should be paying atleast 70%. Back in the 50/60's it was over 90%

Nee bother mate

Not aimed at anyone on here this BTW but it Depends what you consider wealthy to be surely? I'm with Brian here. Ive done without lots of stuff in my life and built up a little nest egg. Like others on here paid off said mortgage. Im 45 years old, was dragged up in Murton but managed to stick in and get a good job. I pay my fair share of tax, too much in my opinion but I'm loathed that people think cos I'm doing alright for now compared to some I should have to pay even more tax. Surely for working class chaps that have done ok for themselves we should be happy cos they did it the hard way, without help. Not just say hey they are richer than me so tax em, tax em, tax the bassas!!!

I’m not wealthy.

It’s all relative anyway - to somebody on £200k, a person on £100k is not wealthy. To a person on £25k both are wealthy.

It's funny how you mention £200k and £100k.......I bet you are somewhere inbetween !
Bring back the fuedal system

Same here mate. I’m 37. And have worked my bollocks off.

I’ve never complained about how much tax I have to pay, but disagree that there should be a zero rate and a high rate for high earners. I’d like to find something fairer.

I’m not wealthy. And I may be massively out of touch, but I don’t see £35k as a large salary...even though it will be more than some earn.
What’s your combined household income, your salary, your missus’ salary and including any income from property or shares etc?

Not that it’s anything to do with you, but.... no shares at all, property runs at break even. And our combined salaries would be less than £100k. Much less.

That’s my issue, people of means who think they’re overtaxed.

The median earner pays about £2.5k in tax a year, whilst the median full-time earners pays about £3,300.

I pay more tax than both but I don’t resent it. I don’t think I pay too much, and those who do are typically selfish people with grandiose views about how hard they’ve worked compared to other people and how they’ve earned their money and don’t want it taken away.
