Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

Oh well if the papers say it then it must be true. I mean it’s not as if it was heavily reported we were signing him this summer or anything.
Funny that he ended up at ajax in the end.

I mean a bloke who chose to go to Saudi for his own reasons, definitely wouldn't make decisions based on tax implications. Definitely not.

It is clear we are still on a very strict budget, particularly when it comes to wages. I knew we would never pay Henderson's wages. The club have a price they are prepared to pay and they will not go over it no matter what, even if it means losing out on key targets, this has been the case since the owners arrived.

They also avoid signing older plays that they will get no return on in favour of playing young lads, who will appreciate in value if played regularly, so signing Henderson would mean less opportunity to raise the next lamb.

I think Henderson would have been an amazing signing, he has all the PL experience and leadership in the world, things our signings so far are lacking.

It's a good job you still have us down for the league title and the FA cup even without Henderson 😆

Reading between the lines there was nothing in it bar the above.

From the stuff put on here over the past year by people who know him he made contact with the club, but something may or may not have happened with Speakman that soured the relationship and the discussions stalled.

He went elsewhere and there's been no contact from either him to the club or the club to him since.
pretty much

He wanted to come last summer, we messed him about he went to Ajax. Even if KS came out in the press and said we were 100% interested, there was only a slim chance it would ever happen. The relationship was already soured.
He never went to Ajax in the summer.

This is a story as old as the hills. It goes a bit like this:

Do as I say, not as I do. Entrenched in the unconscious ego bubble with its inclinations towards arrogance and the felt entitlement to do & say whatever they want. Hypocrisy exposed, they become angry &/or defensive. They then take the stance of being offended at being caught with hands in the till for all to see. Some go on to play the victim, some run away, some do both, some do neither.

I liked Henderson when he was our player. He went on to have a successful career. If he'd kept his mouth shut & taken the Saudi money, that would have been one thing. It wouldn't have been a good thing (in my opinion) but before taking that money he'd been unable to resist putting himself up on a moral pedestal & in doing so he made matters much worse when he then decided to take it.

We all make mistakes. Some learn from them, some don't. I wish Henderson all the best.

TIDIED.

If there was an offer on the table for him and he's turned it down he can't really be a Sunderland fan. 35 years old and choosing to finish your career at Brentford...
