one more and you can be in a bandI'm a 53 year old Finance Director with 2 degrees.
You?
He's a public figure and can be judged accordingly.
You're a strange person.
State of this man.
I don't have a problem, he asked me what I did if you'd care to read the thread.
I am not telling anyone how to think and merely expressing my opinion that he threw everything he stood for away when he accepted to go to Saudi and I think the reaction would be very different if he wasn't one of us.
He's also 35 years old and totally the opposite of the model.
and to quote the other poster "how can you judge me if you've never met me".
He's also 35 years old and totally the opposite of the model
I'm simply saying that people shouldn't ignore the context and nuance of Henderson's situation by comparing him to the average bloke working in Saudi.Hmmmm
At what point do you forgive and forget.
The mags have sold their souls to them. If all of a sudden there fans realised the error of there ways, and said nah fuck this, it wrong let’s move on, start a protest (they love that), and get these fuckers out, would you have more respect for them?
Hendo was very, very wrong for doing what he did at the time. That’s especially more so the case when prior to that move he was very much and advocate and ambassador for everything they stood for.
He paid for that mistake, he lost his England place, fell out of love with the game, and by all accounts hated it. He quickly realised his mistake, forgave a lot of money and moved on as quickly as he could.
At what point do we accept people make mistakes? Have you never made a mistake in your life? Are you saying that Henderson should pay for that for the rest of his life, or do we allow people to make mistakes?
Browne doesn’t fit the model either but we signed him. Like you say we have tweaked it now and the. But the core strategy is to obviously buy young and improve. Hendo bring bags of experience with him, a love for the club etc. It’s a no loss signing in reality hopefully he doesn’t want daft money. No its not. The model is about finding value in the market, which incudes signing quality players on free transfers.
What better value than signing an England interntional and serial trophy winner?
He left pretty much leaving all that money on the table mate if what is reported is true he didn’t get a penny. Not sure what people want from him tbh, not as if he went there made a stupor amount of money like the other players currently milking it in that league. Loads of clubs are linked with bringing toney back this summer for instance I would say he’s a way worse case as he was pretty much in his prime years and did square route of nowt over here. Hendo was nearing the end and had won everything he could have.I'm simply saying that people shouldn't ignore the context and nuance of Henderson's situation by comparing him to the average bloke working in Saudi.
As for forgiving him, I don't believe he's ever actually come out and had the balls to own his mistake.
What happened to him were consequences of his actions. That's not the same thing as talking about what he did, expressing remorse and so on. He still has the voice to be able to tell the world how despicable the Saudi regime really is, but he's strangely silent.
I'm not arrogant enough to believe it's my place to forgive him. I'm far from perfect, but one thing I will always do is hold my hands up and admit my mistakes, apologising where necessary. It seems Henderson prefers to forget all about it and hope everyone else does too. It's very hard for me and presumably many others to respect him for that.
When he actually comes out from under his rock and expresses true regret for endorsing the Saudis and is openly critical about them, I'm sure most will nove on and regain some respect for him. All we heard is how miserable he was there, well good! If he expected sympsthy and hugs, he really must be the most deluded, narcissistic footballer on the planet.
Again - context, nuance, hypocrisy etc, mate. This is the type of straw man argument that I was talking about in my earlier post, man!Browne doesn’t fit the model either but we signed him. Jermaine DeFoeHe's also 35 years old and totally the opposite of the model.
Jermaine DeFoe
Alex Pritchard
Bradley Dack
Simon Moore
Alan Browne
All signed aged 29+ under “the model”
Didn’t realise we had a cut off at 35. De Foe was 39So all not 35 then
Just my opinion mate.
I personally think Henderson would be a superb signing and next manager in the making.
I’ve not read the entire thread but people have taken the judgemental position.
I didn’t not like the way that you quoted your qualifications and job role. So what? You could be a shoe polisher with CSE in woodwork but still have a valid footballing opinion. No offence to you mate and it was probably out of frustration but sure to think about what you say would be my advice.

Read some Gramsci you foolWell done I’m impressed.
However the trouble with common sense is that it’s not common.
Bringing JH home is common sense and will be fantastic for the club and city.
He could play for nowt and his bank manager would not even notice.I just can’t see anything stopping him coming back, and coming back at a cut price we can afford.
Sorry, but this is his club and always has been. He’s been at basically every major game we’ve had over the years since he left that didn’t clash with his own clubs commitments. And we’re all Sunderland fans, if you’d done everything else in the game why wouldn’t you want to be back here.
I've got three degrees and I'm still a twat. Having degrees does not give you any special rights or esteemed perception. So, well, nyerr!I'm a 53 year old Finance Director with 2 degrees.
