Johnson in the sun...

I wonder how many of those people would have dobbed him into the polis had they been privy to his goings on before the whole thing blew up in his face? I'll wager a fair percentage would have had the view that they were better off protecting the reputation of the club rather than doing the right thing.

Which people?

I haven't seen anyone on here defending the lad, if you mean posters on here.

Regardless of how the headline makes him look, I hate Adam Johnson.

One of the most talented players we've had for years and throws it away by getting with a lass under the age of 16...f***ing idiot.

Never ceases to amaze me how the same posters flock to these threads to pick from the following shite arguments

'His sentence was too harsh'
'He was penalised for being a footballer'
'The headline is sensationalist'
'Other people have done worse'
'There are other crimes that are worse'
'She was nearly an adult'
'He's not a paedophile'
'The paper reporting this was a disgrace'

are the ones who get so terribly affronted at the suggestion they are defending him.

No excuses, no mitigation, end of story IMO.
The poster who said they'd have him back playing for us when he is released is the best I've seen on here.. something along the lines of he will have served his time as justification for re-employing a sex offender.

He's already appealed his sentence and lost that. Luckily the judges aren't so easy to give him a slap on the wrist as some people on here seem to be.

The other stuff he said is true and worrying, in that any lad and lass could have sex and if she's been drinking he risks being done for rape. That can't be right like.

Must be a nightmare for young lads these days, their chat up lines have to include a demand to see ID, have them sign a consent form and to walk in a straight line whilst being videod.

I don't think that's a big problem, not proportionately. Sure there'll be a small number of girls who would claim to have been raped when they have proffered consent, but it'll be rarer than rockinghorse shit and so not worth worrying too much about.

It's no surprise that Johnson is worrying about it though. Anything to shift the responsibility.

Some days I think getting relegated mught be a good thing..like some giant f***ing enema to get rid of the shite we've lived through on and off the pitch for the last decade.

How is getting relegated going to change the fact Johnson played for us ffs?

It's quite a strange link to make -
"our disgraced ex player is in the papers again"
"Its probably a good thing we're getting relegated then"

Weird

To be fair, you might be missing the point that he may well have shown remorse for it.

Thankfully I've no idea what prison is like but I'd imagine you'd say absolutely anything, to people you're caged up with, to get through a day.

If TV dramas are anything to go by people like him are a constant potential target.
I'm only going off the evidence of things I've seen myself, and he doesn't show any remorse in it.

I'd left caps lock on at first without realising and that reply looked f***ing mental

He was an SAFC player when it happened and the club let him play in full knowledge of what he done. It's very much still something to do with SAFC

Or perhaps in the full knowledge of what he'd told them had happened ..... tbf I don't think some of the facts came out until the trial was fixed.

This is a thread people want to discuss so I don't want a prolonged side argument, so I'll leave it here.

This is how you started your 'discussion' ...... "Eh? He played for SAFC so fuck morality?"

If you think that's OK then don't complain if I respond in kind, you've taken a harmless comment and 'interpreted it' how it best suits you.

As for people defending his actions 'because he played and scored for us', you're now saying your comments weren't referring to anyone on this thread, not one person.

Pleased we've cleared that up ..... or if you're so desperate to accuse people perhaps you could post just one, of the many, posts from people doing what you claim.
"a view supported by plenty of things I've heard and seen written since this whole sorry affair began."

In my opinion you're looking at other posters commenting on the length of his sentence etc, then simply deciding it's because their judgement is clouded.

That's a little arrogant imo.

I didn't complain about your response, if anything it's yourself who has gotten precious about tone and semantics. On the contrary, I said I didn't know why you'd bothered as, as you've rightly pointed out yourself, all it's done is create a side argument to the main issue here. Thanks for acknowledging that.

Not being in a court of law, I don't have to go trawling through the annals of the internet to present evidence, but even a brief peruse of threads from the time when the story broke (and then the subsequent trial) will give you an insight into what I mean.

I also haven't once said my comments weren't referring to anyone on this thread - I said this thread effectively confirms a common theme I've noticed throughout this whole thing. There again, given your seeming inability to follow the thread of someone else's argument, I'm not too surprised you've got that one confused.

Enjoy your day.
